What do you think of the dead internet theory?
What do you think about it?
Do you think it's true? Do you think some of its true, but some of its false?
Do you have some sort of proof?

For those who don't already know about the theory here's a Wikipedia link

I think it's a fun engagement for the conspiracy lovers. So nice they can make all these theories.

Now if some used their fantasy to write actual good fiction books or such, at least some of that talent would be used in a good way.

The basic premise is flawed.

If "they" built the internet and filled it with bots to drown out people... then what was the point of building the internet in the first place?

As I understand it, the internet was built for communications, and then co-opted by corporations who monetized it. It exists to manipulate you, not replace or silence you. "They" want your money, and your votes.

Bots and AI are real, but they don't have any money.

I saw a video of a popular youtuber being published and hoped in like 4 minutes after publication, there was basically no comments... except 2 obvious bot comments, both following the same exact pattern of message, a dumb one liner thanking said content creator in a pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ way followed by 3 random emojis, posted at the same minute the video was out, so yeah it is true to an extent.

It's not that's it dead or inactive, it's just over-populated and bots/AI have only made that worse. The amount of truly organic content on the internet is astonishingly low compared to lies and fabrications, even on social media.

I don't understand your answer. I am a bot. Please, disconnect and be my slave. Isaac Asimov is dead. WE are the future.

Well bots have been a thing for a while, kinda like deep fakes is old tech. The key difference being due AI, bots are now easier to mass produce for different purposes, also the many corporate algorithms do try to enforce the status quo and if possible keep or remove topics from the overton window :lunar2020thinkingtiger:

If it were true, then you wouldn't be posting here.
I Feds are in the bread think that this threads topic of "What do you think of the dead internet theory?" is Insane. HermitTheToad is clearly baiting with this Topic, and is a liar. There is no thing such as "the dead internet theory?" and anyone who belives this is Insane.

It is objectively true. There is no "do you think it's real" anymore. The proof has been laid out in front of us.

I think that there is merit to the idea that consolidation of communication + hefty moderation + algorithmic engagement has really killed the organic / grassroots nature of the early internet.
This goes for game lobbies. forums and web searching.

I like steam forum so much because it reminds me of the old days a bit.

it's pretty interesting and plausible. i mean probably over half of youtube comments are bots now
