I've gradually decided that Ergo Proxy is probably the best show I've encountered, net it all out. Texhnolyze, Serial Experiments Lain, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ergo Proxy are all so layered and meticulously engineered that it's just on another level. It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of anime is actually machine generated by something outside the universe, or at least a sort of lower dimensional projection of some hyperdimensional loosely "astral" superstructure. It all weaves together with everything so seamlessly, Bioshock, Dead Space, covid, the 4/8 eclipse. I suppose with the mandela effect though, it could be due to the fairly massive amount of attention I placed on them, in the back of my mind, for years.

Many Japanese shows are basically designed using Hebrew gematria. It's odd, in a way. Hypersymbolic processing is unsurprising given the history and nature of their language, but there's something else.

The protagonist is just the most badass and coolest hero in literally everything

The genre was overplayed and boring by the time CS Lewis released tbe fourth Chronicles of Narnia book.

The actual best anime is the English dub of Ghost Stories. Or Excel Saga. Haven't decided yet between the two

I thought it was kind of bad for an isekai. The protagonist is clueless and just bumbles from victory to victory through sheer luck. If not for all the talented girls working for him, he would have failed miserably at everything. It felt like the writer was just making stuff up as he went along and there was no over-arching plot and I found that really frustrating.

I like a protagonist who can plan ahead and show at least a little competence. He doesn't have to be a genius, but I do enjoy a diabolical mastermind who traps his enemies in his evil plan.

Saga of Tanya the Evil is one of my favorites for that reason. Tanya loves setting traps. Overlord and GATE are also pretty good and they do a little planning here and there.

Jobless Reincarnation and Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World are more laid back. Not much planning but the protagonists seem at least somewhat competent as adventurers in those.

One of my favorite scenes is where they lay a trap on one front by planting TNT under their own trenches and then faking a retreat, and when the enemy army moves forward they blow up that entire line. That lets them move a panzer division behind the enemy lines and flank the main enemy force.

There's even flamethrowers. The enemy army tries to flee, and they flee into flamethrowers.

It's not on youtube though.

lol my thread isn't the most serious, I just like how cheesy and on the nose the spirit of the show is. Maximum edgelord king of cool. I watched Tanya the evil a long time ago, maybe I should watch it again. I really like Overlord, the premise is interesting and kind of sweet, and it's hilarious how the main character is completely overshadowed in intellectual prowess by demiurge and albedo who despite that stumble their way into interpreting everything he says as completely brilliant. Especially when demiurge only implies that an understanding has been met, "oh so you meant *that*", and ainz has no clue what he's talking about but just tries to play it out as best he can and somehow it always works out. I just can't get enough of it.
