Is higher refresh rate needed ?

Hi, I just want to make a decision on buying a monitor. Is higher refresh rate needed for playing games like witcher 3, shadow of war, black myth wukong? I'm looking for some 4k monitors but cost is too high for refresh rate like 120hz so on, so wanted to know if buying a 4k 60Hz AMD Freesync monitor is adequate for playing these games.

The main "practical" benefit of high refresh rate is being able to make better use of ones reflexes and hand-eye coordination in competitive fast-paced pvp. Beyond that it will just look smoother so you have to see it for yourself and weigh that against a higher resolution which you don't need quicker reflexes to appreciate. For the games you listed I think it would be a waste of money.

I wouldn't know, I run SCP: SL with 40 fps (if I'm lucky) and KSP with 30 fps.

It's dependent on your gpu

I'd recommend focusing on getting a oled monitor and possibly 4k.

1080 at 60fps is comfortable for me though.

Don't forget response time. Even if you get a good picture with 120hz, it will still look bad if it takes too long to update pixels during action scenes.
Make sure you get one that has 1ms, rather than 5ms or higher.

You really don't need higher than 60Hz for non-competitive video games. It shouldn't dampen your enjoyment

tbh I don't notice the difference from 2k to 4k, while I have a 4k monitor at 60hz. I'd recommend settling for 2k at a higher fps. It'll be easier on your system, cheaper, and smoother. Maybe go to a physical location and see if you can scrutinise the differences, then make a more informed choice. I regret not having a higher fps after seeing what some of the 144hz monitors are like- I felt like my 60 fps was choppy afterwards

It depends on your gpu and the games you're going to play. If you tell us what those are then we can tell you what refresh rate you might want. Also depends on your play style and if you prefer quality or performance.

E.g. a csgo player will have a better experience with a 360hz 1080p monitor
an elden ring player will have a better experience with a 120hz 4k tv

To offer you some additional insight, the refresh rate is measured in Hz (cycles per second). It cycles the screen that many times per second. Whereas, FPS (frames per second) is how many images are pushed to the screen per second. They are different. FPS is dependent on your PC and is outputting to your monitor and Hz is dependent on the monitor you buy which displays frames coming from the computer. If your FPS is higher than your Hz (refresh rate), then that is always bad for a gamer's purposes.

It comes down to personal preference and budget. Personally, I'd rather have a lower resolution monitor at a higher refresh rate. The sweet spot for me is 120hz, and the minimum refresh rate I'd prefer is at least 80hz. My current monitor is 160hz at 0.5ms response time.

Keep in mind that when it comes to resolution, there is always the option to use Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR) to get the resolution you want. It's not as "good" as native 4K or 1440p, but it's good enough for me. My monitor is 1080p and if I ever want to play at 4k, I just use DSR. On top of a high refresh rate.

This way you get a decent resolution, incredibly smooth gameplay and don't have to shell out a ton of money to make it happen.

Improvements from 60 to 144 Hz are most noticeable, increases above that are harder to notice.

Higher refresh rates benefit more people that play very fast paced games, especially multiplayer ones - i.e. first person shooters, racing games, etc.

Other than that it just offers smoother animations so a little more pleasing to the eye.

All in all, it all depends on your money needs.

get the one that fits ur budget best. higher refresh rate makes it look smoother but most graphic cards cant even get u 60fps in 4k

Just get a TV. Anyone telling you about "input lag" and "low refresh rate" on modern tvs" is trying to upsell you on a high end monitor. I use a cheapy TCL TV that has 120hz and no noticeable input lag.

120Hz feels better than 60Hz, but if you've used a 60Hz monitor up to this point, you might feel it being too quick.

Can your GPU output 120fps at 4K anyway?
