How not to get banned tutorial
Never be contemptuous or insulting of anyone. You can be contemptuous of an object, but not of someone...

Even if you say something joking or second-degree, it won't change anything, moderation doesn't understand jokes and second-degree...

Don't be off-topic in a topic and post at most 3 messages in a row, then wait for someone else to say something before posting again.

For example a topic about flowers, you want to participate to criticize someone about something, then it's simple start your message by talking about flowers (the topic) “yes roses are crap” then you can quote the person you hate to criticize without risk of being off topic.

Don't behave like a moderator and say things like, you're going to be banned or even give simple advice because the moderators hate that and they're going to ban you because they think you're behaving like a moderator...

Finally, keep in mind that even if you follow this tutorial to the letter you can still be banned just like that, either a moderator doesn't like you or you've been mass reported...

If I've forgotten anything, just say so...

Don't use racial slurs and don't talk about Jewish people. And don't outright advocate violence. You can get away with pretty much anything else here, unless you run afoul of a moderator who abuses their power or you do something that could hurt Valve's profitability.
It's funny because I've been banned before, and challenged it.

I looked into the details a bit more and it seems excessive. I’ve gone ahead and removed the ban at this time.

Oops! Honestly, this is kinda why I'm in the boat of shutting down off topic and Steam community hub. They can't handle their own platform, they shouldn't have it.

I am back after a 30 day ban. The only way to make sure you don't get banned is to say nothing controversial. What I want to know though is whether or not bans on the message boards lead to you losing your account. Anyone know? I don't want to lose my account over speech. I have way too many games on it to lose.

Step 1: Don't get banned

So, are the mods monitoring the forums or is someone snitching?

Bans on forums will never result in a ban to accessing your account. I don't even think Steam gives permanent community bans anymore. At worst you can get a very lengthy community ban. But this will never impact access to your games. You'll just lose access to community features.

1. Don't go ad hominem.
2. Don't go against the settled narratives.

Yeah I think they did away with permanent bans awhile back. I used to have a permanent ban on a game forum for advocating for piracy (this was years ago and I was stupid about it lol), and a mod here actually lifted the ban. Even though it was on a game's forum rather than a Steam Community forum. I was genuinely surprised. They said that they don't do permanent forum bans anymore.

Also OP, don't try to circumvent the profanity filter. That can result in a ban too.

Number 1: don't be a Right-Winger on a website catering to the Left-wing
