The "C" In Celtic Is Pronounced Like a "K"
Get it, got it? GOOD.

Award me if you agree.

source - I'm Irish. Well not really. Not culturally, but I got the familial ties, so I know.

How do you pronounce the Cs in Thicc?
Steve 3 SEP 2024 a las 11:42 a. m.
I know. But tell that to Boston.

If the Wolfe Tones themselves pronounce it "selts" in the Celtic Symphony, I'm not about to argue.

Boston's still a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Graffiti on the wall! Oo, ah, up the RA!

It would be funny to start forcing everyone in the New England sportsmedia to start using the "correct pronunciation". Just like how "Kiev" is now "Kyiv".

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Celtae#Latin

Borrowed from Ancient Greek Κελτοί (Keltoí), Κέλται (Kéltai), Herodotus’ word for the Gauls, from Proto-Celtic *kel-to, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *kelh₂- (“to strike, beat”). Compare Gaulish theonym *Su-cellus (“good striker”).[1]

I live like 4 hours away from Boston, so I could drive down there and tell them. I know better than to do that to sports fans though.

A blossom as red as the life's blood we shed
And for liberty's cause against alien laws
With Lochiel and O'Neill and Llewellyn drew steel
For Alba's and Eirn's and Cambria's weal

The flower of the free, the heather, the heather
The Bretons and Scots and Irish together
The Manx and the Welsh and Cornish forever
Six nations are we, proud Celtic and free

I meant Kiev! :steamfacepalm: Too often have I heard basketball fans (right? It's basketball?) mispronounce the other word..
I was referring to the Newspeak used in the mass media. Everything is being given new pronunciations now, not to mention new pronouns. What used to be Kee-Ehv, is now Kee-Yiff.

IIRC, the differences in pronunciation are due to the differences in how it's pronounced in Ukrainian vs Russian. The former has been chosen as the most currently appropriate to be widely used... for obvious reasons.
