Black games?
What's with these games these days where the screen is black? Even if you increase contrast or brightness, all objects and especially the background is dark and depressing, even if the lore or theme of the game is unrelated to darkness and depression.

I suspect it is easier to make a game on a black background rather than create a background, since it can be void and save time.

Another possibility could be intends to make the game look "edgy" or less colorful, with hopes to come off as edgy and more suited for adults; Almost as if playing a colorful and bright games hurts masculinity of an adult.

Either way, I think we should play games to have fun and lighten up instead of feeling like we're drawing on floor with stick inside a candle-lit cave.

It would be easier to determine whether you are talking about "dark games", or just a defect in your setup if you'd actually name a game or two.

Personally, I have not encountered such "dark games", at least not by accident: if a game looks bad, I'm not interested.

Free markets actually prevent the scenario you are complaining about: if a game company buys a lot of the dark colors, lots of bright colors will be left in storage. They'll be sold at a discount, so some other game studio will be making a game using the bright colors.

It doesn't have to be bright either, some of them just lack a background. And I'm seeing a lot of these games getting released these days compared to before.

Here you go. Here's some games that have white backgrounds instead.

That should help ya lighten up.
Thanks
Create areas intentionally dark
so people doesnt cheat
VFX are cheaper in the dark.

Very useful topic.

"Eve Online"

I abandoned this game because of the very dark background.
Well, not exactly. Initially, the game had the ability to customize the interface color scheme. Then this option was removed.
To repeated complaints from players that their eyesight was getting worse, the developers responded that they would not change anything.
I had to abandon this very good game because of the stubbornness of one of the designers.

Don't buy this game and don't encourage the snobbery of such developers who don't want to make contact with their players, who pay them good money.

By the way. The developers blocked the discussion on the game page. This is another minus to their karma. What are they afraid of? Their players?
