I don't like the internet nowadays.
I mean it's always been toxic, but I feel like it was less toxic back then. I feel like the internet gotten more toxic ever since 2020. People are attacking eachother for no reason. Like people attack someone just because a person said something or done something even if the thing said/done is a good thing. I don't want to have to deal with being harassed, and getting hate to the point I get paranoid/scared/panicky/feel unsafe, and have to take a break from the internet. I just hope the internet gets better..

It's been getting increasingly toxic year on year since about 1980, so I suggest you run while you still can. It is not a positive place outside of curated or moderated spaces. Or static websites, I guess. Those things are still mostly fine.

Well. Except here. And...
[long list of sites and apps]

...but other than those! Still mostly fine.
I'd argue most more strictly moderated sites are very toxic. Notoriously filled with circle-jerks and people with their head up their arse.
Yep. Reddit is one.
I like federation more, everyone wins

You can have the same social network as a free-speech site, and you can host that same social network as a echo-chamber and mute the free speech site.

Two changes at the margin for me: 1.) Politics has invaded everything online. There are no safe havens anymore. 2.) An anti-narrative position can be censored.

The interwebs were always toxic. That was never the problem. The problem is there's too many normies using it since the iPhone came out and as a result our retarded political "leaders" started to notice it.

Like any other social setting, it's all about the company you keep.

If you spend most of your time playing games with people who are significantly younger than yourself, and post on their forums, then you're likely to get lots of immature trolls.

If you look at serious forums about other topics with older people, you'll find better company.

I disagree with that assessment. It doesn't matter how old the person is ... it has to do with their beliefs and their ability to take another person into consideration when they talk.

I admit a lot of younger people aren't being taught how to treat other people with respect, but that could be said about some older people too.

You are on OT right now OP. If you are expecting a place where almost anything goes (within reason, of course) you are in the wrong place. Get yourself some thick skin or get out of the fire now.

Don't expect people to be changing their behavior for you alone. I expect to see a lot of laughter if you think that is realistic.

Fun fact but I actually like 98 percent of everyone here. And that’s saying a freaking lot.

It's admittedly refreshing from other discussion sites

It's way better when you start cutting ties between your real identity and your online one to the point you're truly anonymous. Then, who cares if you're attacked, just have fun and if things get bad just nuke your internet mask and make a new one!
