yeah i never considered Yakuza in the same genre or gameplay style as GTA. they're fundamentally different. I have no idea what that other person means. There was a reason no one said it because it's not a GTA clone at all. It's a modern day brawler (jrpg depending on the entry) game with rpg elements something that GTA does extremely superficially if event that.

Its not the same exactly, because you aren't a criminal, but I've always preferred Just Cause 2 and still play it to this day .
Saints Row 2 was an absolute riot to play at the time of release. It was like if GTA wasn't concerned about believability. Not to mention, again, for the time, the car customization was pretty good. It wasn't as zany as Saints Row 3 but the roots were there enough to distinguish itself from GTA at the time.

Lego City Undercover was pretty funny.

Saints Row 3 was also good too.

Simpsons Hit and Run is a classic

Just Cause 2 was semi GTA like, especially at the time of release with little else to compare it with. The genres weren't as broad as they are these days. It was a GTA-like action game. Very good for the time, massive map.

Just Cause 3 was alright, I didn't like it as much as 2.

Just Cause 4 was trash and I think I played it for like 20 minutes at a buddies house.

Read Dead Redemption is great, so is 2 and Undead Nightmare. Undead Nightmare is probably my absolute favorite zombie game.

I enjoyed Mafia as well, haven't played the second or third one yet. Heard good things about 2, not so much for 3.

Saints Row 2 runs well on the Steam Deck.
Does Mafia 2 count since that series was in production before GTA III came out? It's a solid 8/10.

That said, GTA clones are nearly always derivative junk. The Saints Row and Driver installments were mediocre at best.

Though I prefer Sleeping Dogs to GTA V just because the story, characters, gameplay, setting, and map are more interesting. That's not saying much.
True Crime!

I had both those games on my Gamecube when they came out.

They were clearly inferior GTA-Clones.

Those were pretty mid. I literally only had them because the Gamecube (my only console for that generation) didn't have GTA.
