Frieren: Beyond journey's end.
People who watched it or read it, what are your thoughts? Masterpiece, overrated or somewhere in between?

I myself find it alright. It's not the best thing since sliced bread nor the best fantasy anime ever, but it's worthwhile. Interestingly enough, the side characters are a LOT more interesting than the main cast, as the main cast shows very little growth despite the long time skips. I don't mind slow-burning stories as well, so it's not a turn-off for me.

characters r very shallow. they lack personality to distinguis themselves from many other anime characters that alreelady exist.

the show is too slow paced and the story telling is a bit annoying.

ofc u might have enjoyed it. my ex lpved the showed cuz she was new to anime.

have a good day then :bite:
it's been one of my favourite anime released in the past decade, got completely blindsided

I have some complaints with like the whole OP protagonist thing not being done very well at times (too much focus on "cool frieren moments" which draws attention from the more relatable characters), it's not very interesting to me when one of the strongest characters in a setting is shown kicking ass, but modern anime trends show that's apparently pretty big

but otherwise, I love the cast, and especially I really love the bittersweet undercurrent of a love that wasn't meant to be that defines frieren as a character and her titular journey

It's a fantasy show that tells you to embrace the now because life is fleeting. It's up to you to make sure your past is full of cherished memories and not regret. A lot of people resonate with that.

Whether or not you would personally enjoy it is solely up to you.
Try it. If you don't like it, then drop it.

Already 12 volumes in and I actually like it, despite the lack of character growth and the done-to-death character trope Fern falls into.

From the very few info i've read about in theory should be fairly decent, not innovation of any common tropes but overall a good show? Is on my watchlist which similar to my backlog of games someday if lucky i might end :steamlaughcry:

It's one of my favourite recent anime series. I love the way the story portrays the situation of valueing someone only after they are gone, the changes that occur in society with the passage of time, the lessons to take everything slowly and to just enjoy the journey even when the final task to be accomplished may seem impossible to achieve. Although the overarching plot may seem generic but on the other hand, it allows the characters and their stories to take center stage. I could go into more details but if I had to take an example of a single character to highlight, it would be Himmel. Despite being essentially dead on the very first episode, the way his stories are slowly told by frieren little by little is really interesting and makes him very human and relatable despite supposedly being the legendary hero who killed the demon lord.

It was a good watch
too much fanservice that it gets annoying

I thought it was very good!

Characters are mature rather than having a one-note personality, or trope to drive their character. Frieren herself is made to be more mature and wise, but also emotionally numb from living for so long.

Theme wise, it is slow, but it's not really meant to be an action packed show. The entire show is more about coping with loss, learning to move on in life, and trying to see the positives through grim situations, and appreciate the simple things in life.

Few Anime will actually do this. It is a HUGE departure from, the status quo.
