English as a Second Language people: Do you like Shakespeare?
The Immortal 'Bard of Stratford on Avon' is often called the greatest wordsmith the English language ever had, but the older Early Modern dialect is a bit tricky to grasp, even for native English speakers.

Interestingly, students of Middle English (a few centuries earlier than Shakespeare's Early Modern English) would find that sentence structure quite familiar and easy to grasp.
And only three words in it, which made it into high German. "fern(e)" for distant - and Sonne for sun - and "Ende", while You just lazily skipped the e at the end... "Hath" is also more closer to the Germans "hat" instead of "has". But You can probably oftentimes replace the S with a T. Wasser - water. Was - what. Das - that. Fuss - Foot. (while i don´t understand why You have to use a double oo to make the u sound...) Replacing a D with a T isn´t that far away, but i find it weird, that one can sometimes replace a G with a Y. Tag - day. Weg - way. Sagen - say. "Es mag sein." - "It may be."

But then again i wouldn´t understand the people speaking their northern German dialects. Like i would understand some words, but i couldn´t make a sentence out of it. Dutch people might say they sound like speaking Dutch, but with a German accent - and those who speak these languages would say that the Dutch speak it with a Dutch accent. I´d say that Dutch is probably a middle ground between German and English - in a cute way.
