If people spend more on the console itself, they might ask themselves then, what am I paying for then to use it for later? No one wants a $700 glorified paperweight to sit and collect dust on their shelf if Sony isn't going to give people better reasons to stick with the console. It's the same reason the PS3 launch edition was heavily criticized for costing $500-$600 I think at the time. Even if it doubled as a Blu-Ray player at the time, it doesn't mean people wanted a console just to watch movies.

at least the steamdeck has games and you can easily access your epic and gog library on it.
Most PS5 games don't even use existing PS5 horsepower to full potential.
And for that price I'd just by a 4090 and let that last me 10 years.
PS4 > PS4 pro felt like hardly an upgrade. Owned every PS console but PS5 has always been a joke.
Only console worth owning is Switch these days, PC for everything else.
