I mean it's the same exact thing they did with the PS3 and PS2 backwards compatibility... the original fat ps3 could play PS2 games, and the slim/super slim couldn't

It's funny cause here's nothing here to indicate just how MUCH better the Pro is vs the standard. I mean, sure, consoles have always been sold at a loss anyway. If they charged you for the actual cost of the machine, then $700-$800 would be in that ballpark. But only because they'd expect to make more money on the hardware rather than the peripherals. The games and ecosystem has always been more important for Sony and Microsoft by getting people to buy the console and then invest in the games and accessories for that console.

If people spend more on the console itself, they might ask themselves then, what am I paying for then to use it for later? No one wants a $700 glorified paperweight to sit and collect dust on their shelf if Sony isn't going to give people better reasons to stick with the console. It's the same reason the PS3 launch edition was heavily criticized for costing $500-$600 I think at the time. Even if it doubled as a Blu-Ray player at the time, it doesn't mean people wanted a console just to watch movies.

The PS5 Pro is as expensive as a ROG Ally and you can take those games anywhere.

Why would I even think about PS5 pro when there are no exclusives, and I can play everything a PS5 can play on Steam?

Most PS5 games don't even use existing PS5 horsepower to full potential.

And for that price I'd just by a 4090 and let that last me 10 years.

PS4 > PS4 pro felt like hardly an upgrade. Owned every PS console but PS5 has always been a joke.

Only console worth owning is Switch these days, PC for everything else.
