The benefits of the metric system is that it is consistent across the board with all units.
1 Kilogram: 1000 grams
1 Kilometer: 1000 meters
1 Kilojoule: 1000 joules
1 Ton: 2240 Pounds
1 Mile: 1760 yards
1 Gallon: 4 Quarts
Also we use base 10 in mathematics and daily life. So metric system is easier to apply since it is in allignment with the way we write out numbers. Customary units are always translated into base 10 when writing them. If they were consistent, Quarts to Gallons would use a base 4 notation. But it doesn't.

Similar to the metric units vs. imperial, it's a matter of what's generally used in a country.
I wouldn't call it "dumb" -- in fact, even though we use both 12 hour and 24 hour clocks simultaneously (all these clocks with hands are 12 hour!), when it comes to AM/PM I always have to check what 12 am/pm actually are. Because, yes, with clockhands, I just know whether its noon or midnight.
So, as a matter of fact, the 24-hour clock is simpler, because it does not have this kind of ambiguity -- it just goes from 0:00:00 to 23:59:59. As such, the 24-hour clock is actually EASIER to use for dumb people such as myself.
So, I guess, the real question is why the Americans still use the AM/PM clock...
Probably American Exceptionalism.
Probably same reason they play baseball and American football and use Imperial size units. And temperature in Fahrenheit.
while in our age spotting where the arms of the clock were pointing and tell the time was tought to toddlers at preelementry school.
and we still wear annalog watches.
today kids apeatly are only used to check time on their phones..
dumb dumbs.
its just as they cannot read maps properly and are abysmal in calculating chance when paying cash.
skills we also used to learn to toddlers.
