Good edm'ish music but a little on the strange side.
Although immediately this was my answer as well.
Just a testimonial:
First, the guy and all the controversy/stories surrounding him is not something I'm going to address. I will say that if such allegations/behaviors/etc are true... he's not someone I would ever approve of. (Putting it lightly)
Second:
The only song I had heard of his was, at one point, was "The Beautiful People." I thought it was good and well done, but it wasn't enough for me to be a fan or to pursue his other music.
Next, a friend and I went to go see "John Wick." During one scene, "Killing Strangers" is heard. Again, all I knew of Marilyn Manson was that one prior song and nothing else.
One of the hallmarks of a good "band" is that they have a distinctive "voice." That doesn't mean just the singer, but means that they have a signature sound that can be immediately identified by a discerning ear. That is what also makes good bands into... superstars. In contrast, most of the crap produced today all sounds like it comes out of the same darn box of tired over-produced crap. :)
Even only after knowing that one prior song, I correctly identified the band playing that track,"Killing People," in the first few bars and thought it was very likely that it was Marilyn Manson before I heard the vocals... That's something that only happens with bands that have successfully created a signature style.
This did not make me a "fan" of Marilyn Manson. It did, however, make me acknowledge that the band had "it." IOW, their sound was distinctive, new, fresh, enough to stand out and to be recognizable.
I'm not a fan simply because the tales of inappropriate conduct of its lead are too numerous to ignore. IF such things didn't occur, which does not appear likely, I'd probably enjoy the music despite all the "other" weirdness surrounding the lead... As it is, while I acknowledge that they've got a great style, I won't contribute to their notoriety by buying/watching/listening to their music. That's just the way it is for me.
Note: I'm really not a big fan of "cover" songs. So, the more of those that they do, the less I think of them, to be honest. I understand putting one's own take on something, but that's riding someone else's work. MM has done quite a few of those, AFAIK, and should probably focus on originals.
