What do you think of having video chat with AI?

Hey everyone! I've been chatting with a friend who's super excited about developing an AI video chat app. He believes it could be a big hit and that people might even pay for the experience of having real-time, face-to-face conversations with an AI.

His new app combines both 2 models like TalkingHead and Wave2Lips.

TalkingHead appears to provide facial expressions, but its lip-syncing isn't perfect. On the other hand, Wave2Lips excels at lip-syncing but lacks facial expressions (correct me if I'm wrong). With TalkingHead, you only need a photo of your character, whereas Wave2Lips requires a video template.

So, my question is: why isn't this more popular? Do people just not care about video chatting with virtual characters? Personally, I think it would be far more immersive than just texting or looking at a still image.

It would be more interesting if it was in games and you could talk to NPCs in games. But talking just for the sake of it seems silly.

It could be as long as it can. But it might be expensive.

The problem is that idk what to ask to that AI... Well, apart from "who is your favourite Pokémon?" 🤷‍♀️

I alredy struggle with conversations in real life...

So yeah, it would become boring quickly...

Uhm because most people aren't attached to anime or excessive daydreaming to the point to see their anime characters to be alive. It is robot so it will be predictable and boring to talk to.

btter than nothing i guess, what if it had inapp adds like you talk to ai and it starts pitching you a product in the middle of the sentence when you ask if it loves you. cause i cant really afford paying for things like that.

I think people who use AI to cope with loneliness are losers and the AI is only feeding into their negative habits.

It might make them feel better but that doesn't make it a positive thing.

but who are others to judge them? if you dont want to be with people its their problem then cant be as comfortable as ai, it really is same as taking away peoples medicine cause you think people should all live like cave monkeys and biggest ape should survive.

Also, humans. We're humans. Humans judge each-other, it's part of our evolution as a social species. Judging each other was paramount to our survival back in the day, otherwise it wouldn't be part of our natural instinct.

but people are also monkeys, and i dont want to be a monkey that runs around with smelly armpits and judges others based on who can fart the most.
