German Politicians are trying to have a person arrested for calling an MP Fat online
How has no one in this stupid Z generation noticed the correlation between this and Nazi Germany?

A. You won't get locked up for calling a politican fat. You will get a fine. The won't even be registered as criminal offenders.

B. Nazis do regularly receives sentences for breaking the law. This usually starts with fines and can end up in prison time for repeat offenders.
A fine doesn't make it better.

If calling a politician fat gets a fine, then criticizing anything about them can result in a fine.

But hey, it worked for Hitler for a few years.

Something tells me, the only one that could've called Goering fat, is Hitler himself. If a member of his press or someone in a paper did that, the least they would worry about was a "ticket".

Goering supposedly was amused by fat jokes at his expense. He was also a morphine addict.

Any form of criticism would have resulted in severe consequences. That's the difference.

You can criticise German politicians all day long and even mock them satirically. This is done all the time. We have whole magazines and tv shows devoted to that.

You're right. This whole equating this matters to nazis stupid. In fact, as i said, if anything that even "smells" like fascism in that country, including the AFD, should be locked up.

Being, you are correct, in that you are not the United States, but should have laws, to put people like that, and those admiring the SS, in prison.

But as it seems, fat jokes will land you a summons. Not modern day brownshirts, protesting on your streets.

No it can't. It absolutely can't.

Don't try to talk about something, which you only know from social media.

The issue here, is that a person was insulted. And we are not talking about only using the word "fat" but using language that is specifically meant to demean and hurt someone. Just calling someone "fat" is not enough for the legal system to get involved.

It doesn't matter if it is a politician. If I would have been gravely insulted, it would also be my right to press charges against the perpetrator.

On the other hand there is no problem in saying that the person is a bad politician, that she makes wrong decisions or that she should quit her job. You just need to do it without insulting her person.

These laws have been in place in Germany for many decades.
Guess what?

Still doesn't matter. No politician should have to power to fine someone because they got their feelings hurt. And yes, Hitler did jail people who insulted his regime after he stole power.
By the way: I the politician we are talking about, has been insulted for several yaers in that way, and finally decided, that she wanted to take legal steps to stop concerted efforts by certain groups to insult her.

Which groups? Well among them are Nazis.

Then Germany should stop making the comparison so relevant.

You can't arrest someome for protesting. That is not illegal. But if they chant typical Nazi paroles, there WILL be arrests. The problem is, that Nazis are not stupid. They have learned over the years, how they can skirt the limits of what is legal or not.

nazis insult eachother for political gains all the time.

That's too bad. Welcome to being a public figure.

It's not abou "politicians having the power to fine someone". I am not a politician and if somebody insulted me, I could also press charges.

Hitler jailed and killed people who were in his way. Insulting him was irrelevant at that point. Just criticising Hitler in any way was already enough.

Being a public figure does not mean, that you can be treated with less respect than any other human being in society.

Well they should. Any spouting fascist far right nonsense, 40 years, minimum. That'll nip that nonsense right in the bud. With that history, totally justified. Or, like then, you can let is fester, and not learn the lessons.
