is valve losing its creative touch?
valve has lost its craft & quality in gaming landscape. yes i remember how cool the gravity gun in hl2… was but if they put more effort into these kinds of ideas we would have more fun memories & more games.

For some feels like Valve no longer cares about its core fans as a consumer. In their quest to not become as bad as the publicly traded companies, they have stopped putting out interesting games, over tech & software centric hardware ideas leaving its ip’s stuck in a warehouse never to be touched.

Some would ask, Why does Valve have this reputation, it seems they have lost its core design or passion it once had, with developers like Marc laid law leaving, & its focus on steam over source based games. l4d hasn’t had a follow up & their initial ideas of focusing on steam sales & steam deck hardware over actual linear games like portal or hl.

During the pandemic they had started working on hl alyx, A vr only game in the world of hl & not creating dynamic stories for others to enjoy on other devices….. making ppl bewildered, who didn’t own a oculus or vr set not care to buy for a new game with the headset unless you knew which headset you wanted or reviewers to praise it for best game valves done in over a decade.

So it’s not surprising that Valve was still using code from 1998’s half life to control the flickering lights, most retro games used ambience or The fluorescent flicker effect is defined by the string of code. something ion storm and looking glass really put their heart into & other developers started getting inspired by valves earlier work.

Fast forward a decade where dota & csgo 2 & a card game, two of three games that are either mediocre, & 1 a sequel replacing csgo players who have been training & playing counter strike for esports, events when the original counter strike was a mod where we would jump online after school with friends & snipe or shoot terrorists. both l4d & cs were games created by turtle rock b4 they left making there own studio with back 4 blood which was mixed for fans. csgo has always had timing & skilled players, who knew what tricks to do for each map.

Tf2 has been completely thrown under a bus for a bit having valve ditch its (gaming son) metaphorically, with additional halloween or summer events last one being jungle inferno, a game which is now basically hat simulator losing its charm or a colorful niche first person game, which started prior with tfc as a quake mod for developers who wanted to try a online team based game with valves signature character design. Tf2 is now completely in the community’s hands, with modders, mapmakers, & steam workshop users adding taunts, new hats & occasionally a new comic by tf2 team, in hindsight tf2 was valves last hurrah for the world.

Other games like ricochet hl2 deathmatch, or gmod, are games from other communities using source assets that over time have let fans have creative liberties with tweaking character models, & making early gmod animations, that have led to sfm being the next animation centric program for animators or modders to fiddle around with the worlds these characters have been in.

Valve has also been under hot water with DRM & denuvo selling there games with software that ruins player experiences, with online service problems making fans lose faith or skeptical with valves previous track-record. valve has always had controversies with issues porting orange box to ps3 & gabe disliking that hardware limiting its relationship with console leaders like sony & others.

Portal is also beloved by fans with its world the mystery & characters like glados chell etc, yet it seems aperture deskjob which again came out for the steam deck felt like a prototype of a idea lost within the many changes among valve leadership causing many to give up on any future installment.

Finally deadlock the black sheep of valve…. valves newest game a moba which feels like they slapped together assets from a hl game with underwhelming character & world building feeling like a rushed dota clone, trying to create a fantasy world with gameplay similar to overwatch & early blizzard era character designs not very original compared to games valves made a decade ago. it seems as tho the team that we got a decade ago is not the same valve we grew up with, sure they still make awesome music with people like Mike Morasky who has been with them since mid 80s but these days, Mike is doing some combination of all these things at Valve.

The other issue is the lack of organization structure has led to project cancellations, as it can be difficult to convince other employees to work on them, delaying projects like whatever half life continuation they care to even build, or actors who have worked with valve from Robert Guillaume original eli voice who died, to jk simmons, or ellen mclain. even rick may the voice of soldier died leaving fans sad.

Valve has had awesome voice talent, with people like new Zealander Rhys Darby, who was mainly a comedic actor known for tv shows like flight of the concords to stand up, but there craft has dropped faster then ants eating a melted ice cream cone.

I worry with deadlock we are slowly seeing them lose their charm, joining the heavy blade of online competitor match making as well as moba design not something valve is talented at nor sure if fans even want that, deadlock feels like a game that came out 4 years ago & was scrapped we’ve seen this trend rise & fall time and time again from game discourse, but i worry valve will fly to close to the sun losing its fan base.

Maybe this is no longer the company we have chanted for, most of us are older we no longer have time for online games, i rarely ever go on tf2 or csgo, and miss the days of linear quality that most games today wont create, Sure they could change & reveal the biggest game & open their magic hat with a ip that will blow fans out of the water but i sense they dont care about quality products vs fun ideas, circa now then a decade b4, as we wont get more l4d stories or portal stories. tech & games are changing things are expensive, developers are being struck with the rise of ai losing the creative freedom, the thing that they sought to achieve has stopped & currently care more for profit over what they sought to craft, to bring art alive with these ideas, before the economy changed, but maybe valve needs to get its head out of the sand & listen to fans over steam money.🙁

and yet gabe looks like jesus & wont male hl3 or portal connective universes… theyve lost laidlaw even he pitched the gertrude fan story now we wont get that☹️

PLUS HL collection needs to come to ps4 & xbox… for other non pc fans💔
I just finished your video and disagree with everything. He's so petty and whiny, all the points are super minute and glass half empty. He literally made that video for clicks which makes him far worse than Valve.

why should they when they can do nothing and gain billions. lets alone valve now has a new generation of developers. they grew up with different societal beliefs and have different heads. it wont be the same

why do nothing when one could create…. “art” when ppl mention funny jump guy they know mario, nintendo has made these games fun & creative again key word “create”
why would gabe just sit on a ip & make money off a digital store instead of making fun vivid memories idk maybe im jaded but seems weird to let executives just be like hmmm…. wat if we didn't make more hl🤷🏻‍♂️
lol you are naive to think they care about making more games just to please a few people. they are not free in a sense. more like they have shifted their focus into a new direction by making games that stick to their new hardwares that will make more users spend money on their platform along the way. company always wants to gain more than they vomit out. nintendo is a different case that they absolutely need to expand their games in order to have people buy their dogass portable console and spend even more on there

ok nothing to laugh about just was curious… plus if gabe really cared he’d port these games to other devices like companion cube ported to switch😒 instead of hardware production & bland games like deadlock, every company doesnt make customers lose interest…. overwatch, back 4 blood, these GAMES HAD publishers pitch to consoles, cant valve do that?

Valve is a great company. They should stay the course, but I think they should use the strength of their fringy core instead of tame it and lame it for an industry that wants clearly defined square edges.

yet they only care about hardware developmental stuff, would it kill them to port these games or branch out to xbox or other devices like they did with switch? at least try to go back to the era of 90s with some care added, dota & its cardgame felt lazy. just worry for whats next being exclusive….. losing trust.☹️

They have to make lots of money to put out the cool stuff you want. Since they contribute so much to open source gaming instead of coding games, i assume, hardware is where they can make lots of money. I think they will take more software risks once they build up proton and steamos more. Just a guess.

would it kill them to make a ps4 xbox companion cube collection or half life collection to those devices…. like mass effect or other studios do.😒🤔

Alyx and Desk Job might just be tech demos, but they show Valve hasn't lost the magic and passion that churned out so many bar-raising masterpieces.

In any case, Alyx can be played like a real game thanks to modders.

yet ones a vr game with expensive pricing & ones a steam deck game both could be ported like arkham vr on ps4 etc & desk job couldve added more then a few chapters, or some reference to the games.☹️🤷🏻‍♂️ plus they could've ported a non vr port for ppl who dont want motion sickness or dont like vr. valve cant be that lazy & only developer for windows?….😔 they should outsource & gain trust by bringing these games to console.

OK THE POINT IS VALVE NEEDS TO HAVE CREATIVITY BACK WE HAVE WAITED FOR XBOX ORANGE BOX COLLECTION & hl on ps4…🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ all valve cares about is cosmetics loot crates & hats how bout sharing some of that money on merch LIKE THE DOVE TOYS from tf2 give it to charities or bring portal mel to ps4 xbox etc.
Gaben specifically talked about this years ago. Sony and Xbox refuse to allow updates and many other features that Valve expects so they pulled the plug.

what do you mean updates switch allowed portal to be ported? why would sony or xbox refuse it?

I said years ago.

Anyways obviously Nintendo wanted that game on the switch just like they wanted RDR1 etc so Nintendo reached out. It's up to Sony or Xbox to reach out to Valve, not the other way around because as I stated they already tried that years ago.

Open up yo comments.

sure, but still dont know who would even want to pitch deadlock….. it just has none of the aesthetics of a typical valve game, the other question seems to be how much work does gabe do we know he reads emails, but beyond that its closed curtains, barely see him at pax or any gaming conventions so odd to have him be so quiet, i know robin & erik mostly do freelance & go back & forth just would be cool to see more energy or fireworks, so that we arent left in the dark.🤷🏻‍♂️

Valve is simply a business, so it's not odd that they're interested in making money and thusly take the route they think works best for them.

In other news, water is wet.
