In terms of balancing combat, survival, and social elements, I think State of Decay is the best I've played to date. Despite some major flaws.

I'll give another +1 to Project Zomboid, especially on a good server.

I haven't played it yet but the Dying Light games get a lot of praise.

Dying Light 1 (Not 2), 7 Days to Die (Alpha, not 1.0), Project Zomboid, State of Decay (1 or 2, they're both good), No More Room in Hell, How to Survive (1 or 2).

Zombie Estate is fun, but isn't really "survival."

Not sure if Dead Rising counts, but those games are fun (yes, even 4, it's just not the same).

Left 4 Dead/Back 4 Blood etc don't count, those are just straight-up shooters.

dead space 1 2 and 3 even if its a SYFI twist

dying light is a parkor based zombie game that is really good....seen both games in a bundle with the DLC for cheap not long ago....I HAVE NOT PLAYED 2......i have many hours in 1 and the DLC.....when this game released back in 2015 or 16 it gave me faith people were still working on real single player games that could have online but never needed it to play a really good core game.....base game had a real ending but the DLC truly added some fun things to mess with and gave a good extra 40 hours of FUN game play......they also did a lot of updates over the years to the game and have only made it better.....

with all that said its been under 10 bucks with DLC when the big sales hit so dont rush out to buy it but pick it up when its 10 bucks or less as it will be that price in the next major sale.....

dead rising was great....never played anything but the first one....

Sniper elite's zombie army games are very fun.

Dying Light is my favourite although Last Of Us and Dead Island gets honourable mentions.
