What would you determine a games replayability?
Most of the games that have a lot of replay value are usually things like multiplayer games, things like progression systems and end game stuff. But what would you say makes certain games have replay value? This counts in for single player games and not just multiplayer, is it mods? Is it new game plus runs? Different choices you can make in a story? New builds to test or a new class to play in an RPG? I am very curious on everyones answers!

For me borderlands 2 is the most replayable game because you can play the same story multiple times on diffrent dificulties without getting bored and many people spend 1k+ hours on this game because there are multiple rare items worth grinding

The amount of fun I have.

It all depends. For me personally an RPG game with lots of character builds and branching paths through the story and game that don't allow you to complete all the content with one character give a lot of replay value.

But many randomized games like civilization or XCOM can give crazy amounts of replay value.

And even just grindy multiplayer games can give lots of replay value if you have friends to play with a lot

I would say wanting to play it again. :steamfacepalm:
Lot of factors come in mind for me when i replay a game
if RTS then yes it should be fun , have good architecture ,army units and easy to play

Single player- Well i would replay if i liked the features but it kinda feels like same

Open world this is one of those games which are replayed a lot so yea good graphics, gameplay, response etc

Simulator- These might be the games i would play to improve and get better and eventually the more i play the more refined it feels

Endless score-based games smoke everything else in the replayability department.

For games like Terraria, Stardew Valley, Minecraft, etc. I think its just the vast majority of ways you can progress and play through the game. You can always add new challenges to yourself, mod, or even maybe set new goals in game.

Hmm I think replay means it's just fun to play from 0. Maybe simple action games like metal slug.

If we replay to unlock more content such as a different ending, then it isn't replay. It is post-game. I see new game+ as post-game too where your character can reach a higher level and gain more items.

The amount of possible outcomes to any given situation. I didn't found The Walking Dead or Another World very repayable for example, because happenings could only develop in a few ways.
If you would play it again, you would be forced to do the exact same thing, with maybe a few changes here and there.

Either it's got a story I like, gameplay I like, mod support, or some combination of the three. I've got a couple dozen or so games that I'll play time and time again despite having beat them multiple times - several of which are Bethesda titles, because of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ course they are.

I think a certain amount of randomness or sandbox aspect comes into play. Lack of invisible walls or corridors. Moddability is massive and always adds to what a community can do. Sometimes the story is a little dynamic, but a good game can create a story by simply allowing the hints to be scattered around the world for you to find or being extremely vague like Dark Souls. But the most important aspect is breaking the player's winning formula, because any game that can be speed ran reliably is boring and the player is always going to try and stay in their comfort zone.

Something more than an artificial difficulty increase.

Simply put its choice. Interesting choices. All throughout the game. These choices that you make lead to other interesting choices or payoffs. For me that's it really. My most played games are stuff like Civilization 5, Monster Train, Crusader Kings 3, Divinity Original Sin 2. I think that ethos applies to all those.
