What did yall think of The Substance

Lots of hype and mixed opinions around it. But it turned out to be excessive for my liking. The soundtrack was pretty slick though.

I liked the beginning but hated the ending. And some scenes are really dumb. "beautiful and young people can get everything in life and all men are nice to you" -> the neighbor isnt annoyed anymore. I hated that scene so much.

Yeah lots of plot conveniences. But mostly they were there to emphasize on Elizabeth's condition.

I've never been impressed by horror films. I don't find them scary at all. The only ones I will watch are the comedy horror.

It was fine but overhyped. I like some elements like making the viewer complicit with the exploitation by hypersexualising Sue to a point where it was uncomfortable. But the movie did not know that it should end, when it alraedy made its point.

Also the movie suffered from making it unclear if we were talking about two seperate entitites or not. For all the talk about them being the part of the same individuum, Sue and Elizabeth acted as completely distinct persons, not even sharing their memories. Which pretty much invaldidated the whole premise. Why would Elizabeth take the Substance in the first place, if she wasn't to experience the effects for herself.

If they had trimmed some fat (hahah) and made the premise make more sense, I would have loved the movie. In this version it's just "fine".

The movie gave me a good chuckle during the end credits, when I found out, that a SFX studio was tasked solely with digitally enhancing Sue's breasts.
