The melody was composed by Joseph Haynd. It is sometimes referred to as the ‘Kaiserhymne’. The melody has also been used in other contexts since then. For example, also in the ‘Song of the Germans’, the national anthem of Germany, which was written by Hoffmann von Fallersleben ... and of course it makes sense. ,-)

I think you are confusing the Austrian Kaiserhymne, which has the same melody as the Deutschlandlied, with the German Kaiserhymne, Heil Dir im Siegerkranz, which has the same melody as God save the Queen.
However, I think it's better to have the anthem played from a tape if an orchestra doesn't play clean.
