There are some impressive demos cropping up though. If I get around to a real upgrade, I'm sure I'll be blown away.
Unless the games actually do stink, underneath it all...
Also it´s mainly a Triple A / Mainstream thing. And in some forums, about really good games, the people complain about the graphics - so in the end they get what they ask for. Some AAA game might have one thousand gameplay issues and bugs, but the forums threads are about "The AA looks a bit too blurry - fix Your game." - i mean when they buy their $ 3,000 USD Dollars graphics cards, they probably want something which shows them that it was a good investment...
glad i'm not the only person who knows this
I'm still reminded of Alien Isolation. It's a game from 2010 that could still pass for modern day graphics, but it's optimization was almost magical. There is almost NO FPS drop or stutter in that game. Supposedly it's because the assets were custom and hand crafted rather than different levels of LOD. Meaning you could play it at a lower texture resolution and it wouldn't even look that different. But the art style nicely mimiced the movies' sci fi old school environments and technology. It's been a while since any recent game to come out has had the level of optimization that that game did.
Meaning something made with prebaked maps and rasterization could still look good, if the industry didn't emphasize UE5 and raytracing so much. We need more games like Life is Strange and less games like COD and Assassins Creed 9000. Hell, people can say what they want about Doom Eternal and the Id Tech engine, but at least Bethesda understood that gameplay matters more. And it's not like Eternal looked bad for a modern game.
Some games I like nice graphics, others I like the art style.
There's a lot that goes into whether or not something is aesthetically pleasing.
or only use graphic excuse to spam remake instead to made new fun game
There's like 5 billion indie games.
EDIT: I'm not just saying this, most recently I've been playing

And yeah it runs in the Doom engine (more or less)

It's a fantastic game! It's a lot of fun and there's a heck of a lot to do - It's a "big" game with lots of crafting, base building, adventure, bosses and phat lewtz. Multiplayer too, if you want to do that. I've played it for a few weeks now and am in the middle of another game, but I will be returning to CK a bunch... It's just a darn well-done game. :)
Good games that aren't in the "Ultra-Realism" camp are out there... They're all over the place, really.
