We have over 9000 golden axe games. wooopp. Just look at that rubbish shovel knight.
Not only that, what to Bioshock and Borderlands even bring to the table? Bioshock doesn't know what the hell it wants to be and Borderlands was pretty much a twitch shooter version of Fallout 3.
Bioshock was trying to be a sequel to System Shock 2, it would seem.
Gamers get what they pay for, cod and madden come out with a rehash every year and make bank. "innovative" games lead to bankrupcy.
He doesn't need proof, its painfully obvious to anyone who has a general knowledge of the gaming market and gaming history.
Carry on then.
I also find it interesting that no one here considers a 4 player coop shooter/RPG hybrid like Borderlands innovative. Maybe not now because we have it, but at the time... and lumping it (as well as Bioshock and GTA) in with COD and Assassins Creed like it gets yearly rehashes is asinine. This topic reeks of personal bias and anti-mainstream hipster douchebaggery.
Despite many people on here seeming to hate GT, he has a good point in these videos:

Well not everyone can agree on what is innovative. I'm with you on Borderlands, it's not the first fps/rpg hybrid but it did it very well implementing both of those with addicting loot and leveling. Staying just with fps, Bulletstorm wasn't bad and it strayed from the traditional COD style fps and it underperformed.
Every CoD up to Ghosts sold better than the previous one, and many people claim that the games are very similar (and they are) with little to no "innovation."
The Madden series is literally copy and paste of the previous games just with different players on the teams (doesn't change the way it plays, though), and yet it sells EXTREMELY well.
The Battlefield series, while I've heard isn't particularly copy/paste (never played it myself), is similar to its previous entries and sells better with each game.
Assassin's Creed games are quite similar to each other, gameplay-wise, and 2 sold better than 1, 3 sold better than 2, and 4 sold I think about the same as 3, but a bit more.
Now for "innovative" games like Okami, those sell poorly despite incredible review scores. The games like Yoshi's Island, Super Mario Sunshine, etc. sell worse than the copy/paste 2D Mario sidescrollers.
For better explanation, watch the second video I linked from 3 minutes in onwards. It's mostly graphs and stuff.
