Eye damage from gaming in the dark?
Has anyone here ever received eye damage from gaming in the dark?

Back in the day I was gaming extreme hours in the dark and my eyes have never recovered since -- Maybe genetics?

you can develop myopia due to the strain you put in your eyes because the contrast between the screen and the room is too great.

You can't damage your sight by gaming in the dark, it's a common myth, you can google it. The only thing that happens when you're in the dark is that eyes strain more to see better which can cause a mild headache.

Sight gets worse only by direct physical damage to the eyes, or by aging, which is dictated by genetics and that's something you can't control.

It's more about distances than light, the general advice gived by doctors is every 20 minutes, look at something 20 meters away from you for 20 seconds. To focus on closer objects, your eyes are pressed by some muscles and if they stay like that too much, it can deform your eyes and yes, it lead to myopia as a result. But it doesn't seem to be about the light itself, what really matter is distances. You can put your screen farer and watch through a nearby window from time to time.

Low light is the cause of shortsightedness, whether you look at a screen or do whatever else doesn't matter. Looking at the screen by itself isn't the cause. You need to be in direct sunlight for an hour a day at least.

Correction: please encourage children to play outdoors without any screens in front of them.
Aplle glasses preempt your outside freedom attempt

My Mom told me that the reason I started needing glasses in middle school was because of all the books I was reading in the dark. 😅

Doing things like reading in low light environment can strain your eyes you'll feel fatigue but it will not reduce/damage your eyes gaming in front of a screen too long has the same effect, you blink less when you game your brain doesn't want to miss anything and it makes your eyes dry and you get strain and fatigue again it will not "damage" your eyes the light coming from a monitor isn't bright enough
Of course I'm not talking about those old lamp TV's that had a phosphorus screen coating and a concentrated beam of light burning the image onto it 60 times a second, those are another ball game
