Why do some people say they "grew out of gaming"?
I don't understand why people say this tbh. I am 35 years old, and been playing games since i was 7 or 8 years old. I am still very much into gaming, even though i dont have as much time to play as i did back then ofc. This claim makes it seem as if gaming is only for kids, when the average age of a gamer is 34. It gets annoying when i hear it. I understand some people move to different hobbies sometimes, but it doesnt mean you "grew out of" anything.

Sometimes in life underlying anxiety will shout "you could be doing something more productive!" in the back of your skull.

Having fun can be productive. It's important to a healthy life.
I'm starting to feel it...

none of the new games are really any good anymore, ya know?

I'm playing games from like 15 years ago... they just happen to still work on a PC...

but otherwise I'd by playing like PS2 still.

new things aren't very good... and they're woke... why do you need to heist someone wearing a tutu?

Yeah that's been a problem for me too. Factorio still hits well though.
Video games are just a way to escape reality.
A few possiblities, but mostly nailed down to..

- Having different interests over time;
- No longer having the time to pursue the hobby, thus unfortunately abandoning it entirely -> Usually comes with a complete overhaul of priorities and life changing decisions;
- No longer being fit enough for the genres to keep up with the younger audience, and that is especially applicable towards getting older and having slower reflexes or other health related obstacles.

That's.. About it, if I were to summ it up.
I can't deny forgetting about something, but I think I've managed to cover it all, this time in so little words. Yay! :AsagaHappy:

They're too tired for gaming after they get home from work, taking care of the kids, getting them to little league practice, tending to husbandly duties, and then having a blessed five minutes of "me time" taking a dump before falling asleep in their recliner...

I have none of the above.

I am just bored with the same garbage.

It really can be that simple.

I don't even have a recliner ;-)

how so?

I'm fully aware I'm playing a video game...

it's just a distraction, calm down... no one is getting sucked into the screen... it's just a thing that's more enjoyable than other things...

gawd, it's like every time something is more enjoyable than suffering life's trials comes along it's harmful and addictive >.>

they said the same thing about T.V.... and probably about the radio.

If you want to remove yourself from reality. Read a book. Look it up.

I'm still fully aware that I'm reading words off a piece of paper.

That can be used anywhere for anything. Zoom out.

It was a general post anyway ;-)

ok, I'm reading words off a piece of paper contained within a binding while sitting on the toilet taking a dump...

I fail to see the point?

Simply put, video games are addictive because they stimulate your sense of reward for doing something, like leveling up your character. In each game, when you reach a new level, some kind of reward is also given, a sound signal, a pop-up window with fanfare and flying fireworks. There is a risk of replacing real responsibilities with virtual ones, simply because clicking is more pleasant and easier.
Or your life is not varied and exciting enough and you are looking for impressions on the fields of virtual battles.
A lot of people still view videos games as children's toys.
