I thought a lot of the last ones were? I guess they were just free roaming, not open world. Iirc there was a suit from spiderman over their use of energon grappling cables to get around for characters that had it, and that removed so much of their design that the idea was scrapped.

but man, when I think of all these Conan and Caslevenia and AVP games we have and how crap they are, and how much much epic they could be, it keeps me wake at night
If you want to play it in conan style, then you can boot up Conan: The Mysteries of Time on your NES....
Most Castlevania games are already time sequenced combat (soulslike) just becuase Dark Souls want full nostalgia and mixed abit more modern style to it, does not change the outlayers..
If anything, we need less of these simplistic games and more cRPG centric games.
