though I prefer to collect coins I found in roulation myself..
I value brand new coins as wortless it's the charm of owning something very old and fantasyse what it all can have seen in whoems hands it's been..
the memory of finding it in your own wallet.. years ago.... with all the wear and tear that belongs on it
I hate on those special holders... that dispersonifies those coins.. I have them in an album but i regulairly take them out.. ofcourse the guilders feel extra special since we now have that crappy euro..
a few silver coins I was giften by my gransmother and dad.. the idea my dad in ww2 had as small boy this silver coin in his pocket as he fled the house when it was bombed or taken by germans.. and somehow kept it all these years to give to me.. that gives it value..
come coins I found metaldetecting.. those have that memory to it..
the gold ones.. yes I bought.. and while they are now MANY times worthg what they were when I bought them.. I like to fondle them.. to look at the kings and queens on them and memorise over a time the world was better than it is today.. when houses were still affordable.. when the mayority of society still was proper christian.. when woman still kept their place.. when marriage was a given not an if.. and getting childen a given not an if..
such thoughts is what they give me..
outside coins.,. I do not own jeweltry myselkf.. I have given some to former gf and my fiancee.. but I not wanted it back.. but I can see how a nice piece also can have great memory attached..
if I marry I would certainly wear my weddingband each day like my dad did.. and I quite like tiara's so would I win the lottery I absolutely would buy my wife one;))
-> that said I like platinum in jewelryt the most.. I not like the colour of gold.. and solver corrodes.. which makes platinum (which actually is a bit cheaper despite veing rarer) what most the jewelry I bought for woman was made out..
-> I can see also value in bullion as prepper thing..
but than I would buy bags of silver coins (old dutch one but ypou should buy bafs of "scrab bullion" from your nations currency..
for gold is to valueble to use in a when society collapses situatiuin and bars are hard to split but those old silver guilders, halfguilders and 2.5 guilder coins everybody knows and would be good to use.
as true investment it is stupid.. the price of various items (like a 300 year old villa.. or x amount of a food item.. and so on.. expressing in x amount of gold... has remaint remarkeble equal over centuries proving gold does not suffer inflation..
BUT neither does it gain divident...
which means other things that do and have your savings grow are better investments..
gold and silver survive weather, salty, you alway find dude want it, also you can hide it in secret place only you know, example below a tree only you know where is this tree
as in like 1000 years ago you could buy similar things with a similar amount of gold as you can today...
gold is just incredibly stable while most economies have a designed rate of inflation to push "growth"...
TL:DR your money loses value if you don't spend it, gold doesn't.
Total control, or easier but partial control
And even if you're into doomsday prep, whole 1z coins would be hard to spend in a SHTF scenario. Are you going to cut it into pieces? Or you can get .1z coins or gram bars, but the premium on buying those over spot tends to be even higher. ADDED: So stacking silver coins might be more practical if you're really thinking you might have to ever spend them directly.
if you're going to invest in gold... don't try to find it "cheap"... no one sells gold "cheap"... other than maybe if they're selling it to a pawn shop.
