How do you think the Xbox division will be divvied up?
Thought this was a question worth asking because despite Microsoft's inability to afford Activision/Blizzard/King, they are still interested in doing acquisitions that they really cannot afford.

Because of this, I can't help but think that the only logical conclusion would be for the Xbox division to be auctioned off in piecemeal portions a la THQ in a last-ditch effort to recoup from the money spent on acquisitions that have warranted countless layoffs to pay off, so I suppose it'd be worth asking who ends up getting what.

To start off the thread, I think the obvious ones would be the following:

Halo to Sony (this will likely cost more than what they already sunk on Concord)
id Software and relevant IPs would likely go to either SEGA America or Bandai Namco Europe
Age of Empires and Rise of Nations would most definitely become Paradox IPs
Fable, Crackdown, basically all the scraps that aren't Battletoads to Embracer Group, including the Xbox logo (THQ Nordic is now THQ Xbox)
Battletoads IP rights gets bought out by some edgy junior high student for a dollar, and he'll likely only use it to DMCA random Youtube videos.

sorry dude, but i read nothing microsoft going to abandon video game

especially when they announce portable console similar to switch, steam deck

also they announce new console in 2026

so they are like electronic art and ubisoft, they continue to relese video game and both companies didnt sell their ip even when they stopped to care about that

sony is not better either, they closed japan studio, but not selling japan studio ip or japan studio itself, it is just some example, i didnt read they going to relive infamous, resistance, killzone

so you can still dream for next 20 years about microsoft selling their video game division

even sega didnt after their console failure

That is one of the worst fates I can think of for those IP's. I don't want to see change core mechanics every 4 months while leaving holes in the base game if you didn't buy the latest DLC.

It most likely comes from this.

If we look at their investor calls, then you will notice that hardware sales have dropped, but xbox gamepass is somewhat stable (you are forced to have it to play online) but their PC gamepass is bleeding and have been for some time..

Everytime they make a prediction, like with Starfield release, they predict users will sub for a year, but then they see that people just sub a month, play all the games they are interested in and then unsub, only to come back a year or two later for another month..

This is not a good deal for MS.
They have been doing a new strategy now however, they wanna make filler games for gamepass and then sell them expenssive on other platforms to lure them in for longer periods.

They are also talking about just ditching Gamepass PC and even cancel their next console and instead focus on cross platform game releases.

Companies eat their competitions all the time.
It's a business strategy:
Take on the debt of acquiring the competition, specifically so you don't lose out to the competition later.
Now you have acquired them, so you cannot lose out against them as a competitor.

As for Microsoft not having enough money, it's Microsoft, they definitely have the money.
Just, like any massively wealthy company, it isn't that there isn't any money, it's that what they do with their money is very specific, and so there isn't any money for some t hings, while there is money for other things.

MS will acquire Valve, and the next console a PC/Console hybrid. In short, a Steam/Xbox machine.

Yep, I could see MS purchasing Valve before they started selling off IP. Only issue would be anti-trust regulators, but they could easily afford it.
