Qualities of a good leader
In your opinion, what are qualities of a good leader? This doesn't need to be a politician or representative either. But even people as everyday as supervisors, managers and bosses.

I'm curious because I'm going to be going into a leadership role at my job and I'm curious of what others consider good leadership qualities, so I'm asking everyone from coworkers to random strangers on the internet lol

The above is how I view a good leader. Someone who is able to organize and take feedback and opinions from others and use that to make constructive progress towards a collective goal. In other words, a good leader for me is someone who is the voice of their team. The best supervisor I ever had at a previous job was like this. He was a team leader. Always willing to "be in the trenches" with the rest of us, and would always listen to feedback and bring that to the upper management. He actually got promoted to a higher position (basically a regional manager) and I'm glad he did because he is a great leader.

Shouldn't a leader not also define what the goal is? A visionary of sorts? Kinda dependant on what kind of leader I guess.

Yeah definitely depends on the leader or their role. If the supervisor is a project lead, then I guess the goal would be in regards to the project. I still think it's good to be a voice of your team though. If there are issues in meeting the goals of a project that the team are expressing, a good leader should inform the upper management. Or if the team has thought of a better way to accomplish the goal, the project lead should make those opinions known and try to implement them.

Maybe I've just had really bad supervisors, but most of my supervisors have always taken more of a "dictatorial" approach where it's "my way or the highway", which tends to stifle innovation.

Ok, so we're talking about a manager/supervisor. That is a leadership role but they aren't leaders as such. The goal is given and your job is to reach that goal, monitor progress, identify issues and so on.

The ability to catch public attention, earn trust (deserved or not) and to accurately identify peoples around them (their loyalty, strenghs and weaknesses). A leader need to be a good strategist, but more important, to make his troops do as he say in the first place.

Being wise with that power is the last step, often forgotten.

an absolute ruler but actually good (a benevolent dictator that uses his power to raise his people up not push them down..)
-> who is wise enough to chance this in a meritcracy or democracy or a handpicked noble succesor to prevent the next ruler to be an absolute tyran (for the best goverment is a noble dictator.. but the worst is a bad dictator... and it's hard to regulate which one you'll get.

his traits be a VERY devout christian.. following all Gods laws to the letter..
utterly loyal to his OWN people.. and will put their interest always first.. never ever willing to sell them out for his own interest.. but rather suffer himself so his people may florish.

basicly the ideal leader is the eternal kingship of Jesus Crist Himself.

and if it has to be a mortal man.. a christian-national-sociatist person.. so somebody who has a healthy nationalism for his own nation... while also being a true christian in both personal believe, live and his policies...
(basicly a christian king david.. or a christian judge (of old israel)

Obviously open-minded like your last maneger.
Don't forget that your job is to balance the needs and expectations of both the workforce and the company directors. There always will be opportunities for both.

its actually incredible that every single thing you said is straight up historically wrong, like all of them can be debunked with a few google searches.

To rule with an iron fist, striking fear into the hearts and minds of one's subordinates. The mindless yokels must realize the omnipotent power of their leader, always possessing immense respect with a constant compulsion to please their leader, clearly knowing the consequences of failure. Of course, this implies making example of poor performers with new and creative punishments, enforcing the stranglehold over their meager existences.

Someone who can achieve the specific result. No matter how bad it is for the team.

To hell with courtesy and motivation. If they don't work, force them. Kick them out if you have to, but achieve that goal at all cost.

... Yeah worker hate this manager with all their heart, me included. But he always have spectacular evaluation and loved by the higher up so he's probably the best.
