Australian Government is going to ban Youtube and Online Gaming for Under 16s
This goes hand in hand with a misinformation bill they are trying to pass through the senate.

The Australian Government are trying to basically ban under 16s from any thing social from the internet including online games, you tube, social media platforms, even roblox, reddit and discord.
The only way to enforce this is requiring everyone to prove who they are with their real world identity.
They are also trying to stop VPNs as well from circumventing this.

It's not about kids, its about introducing a digital id they can link to your real world identity so if you post something critical about the current government they can track and fine or arrest you.

It is entirely a parents responsibility to control their kids social media and gaming, not the governments.

This is bad for every single person in Australia, left or right, young or old.

Its likely going to take international outrage to stop this.

When all the services operate offshore - the Australian government can say whatever it likes, but it can't enforce anything.

China - with it's infinitely greater resources can't eliminate people evading it's own firewall.

Australia's genius politicians and civil servants couldn't find their own arse with a map.

Agreed and I would suggest to people to occassionally spend a day awya from Youtube and if needed the internet as a whole to prove and practice telling any company stupid enough to try this that you refuse outright.
The scary part is what if someone sinister uses your digital ID and posts "wrong" ideas and visits "wrong" sites.

But that couldn't happen, right??
Oh yeah, there's a serious problem of getting a knock on the door for things you didnt even do because someone took your I.D. number. And let's make ti worse shall we? Remember Ashley Madison? Cool well someone just signed up to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with your I.D. number and watched massive amount of lolicon hentai. The site got hacked or maybe even leaked intentionally, and now you're getting called a pedophile and your relationships ruined for ♥♥♥♥ you didn't do.

You all misread it as it was upside down. It's gonna be banned for everyone under 61.

Good luck!
No, that's incorrectly translated from upside down speak. It's banned for everyone under 91.
Australia couldn't even implement Covidsafe apps that worked..

Great firewall of Australia?

Tell 'em their dreaming.

Sure, they'll try - but it'll end up being the biggest and most expensive clusterf*ck - just another colossal waste of time, energy, and taxpayers money..

All to achieve - nothing.

This is a great idea. Now they can spend more time annoying their awful parents and stop annoying the rest of us adults who want a peaceful online experience.

Goood luck giving zuck full access to your id to be stored in some hackavle server somewhere. Enjoy your dystopic island

Just nanny state things.
I read the title of the topic...

Oh no!
Anyway,...

I do hope you figure it out down there. Not that I've tried it myself but I heard rumble is the youtube replacement. Do the new laws target youtube or is it categorically defined(so potentially any site/service will be a potential target)?

My grandsons 8-10 love YouTube here in the U.S. they watch baseball and Fortnight replays...
I use to watch all the children shows with them, there are hundreds on YouTube.
Looks like Australia never stopped being a penal colony

Here in America our kids can't even do basic math and are passed on courses anyways.
Go to a McDonalds drive thru and your bill is $19.80 and you hand them a $20 bill.
Can't even calculate the 20 cents in change in their heads.

Australia to be banned from the rest of the world

It just means kids can't make accounts but under parental supervision, they can still access everything. It's like asking parents for permission.
