Gate is by far the worst anime I've ever seen, I liked the concept but I was too angry that it focused on kaway desu girls instead of showing battle scenes between helicopters and flying creatures or whatever. The scene with the special forces of several countries about to fight and suddenly the 800-year-old girl ruins it all, it's an absolute piece of crap, I don't know how I managed to watch it, the worst thing is the king acting like he's got a plan when there's no damn plan, he reeks of rubbish, it makes no sense whatsoever! Haven't seen it but I heard its quite a slow burn that's better experienced by running into it on TV than watching it like every other show.

edit: oops, didnt answer the thread. my favorite anime was the one where the guy with this umbrella claimed he was leaving off topic for good but then he didnt and goes pretty hard checking all the boxes now.

Best - Code Geass: I love the style and the story, every character feels fun, I don't usually like mechas but this anime does it excellently, good duration of 50 episodes, a very interesting main character and one of the best endings in anime.

Worst - Uzumaki: I was waiting for this to come out for about 4 years after reading the manga and when it did it was the biggest disappointment ever, the animation is a mess after episode 1 and they just stopped giving a damn about the show, which you can easily tell, I couldn't even finish watching it because it was so awful.

Best: Jin-Roh - the wolf brigade. It is excellently drawn and has a great soundtrack, has a very griping and thought-provoking story and is short enough not to overstay its welcome.

Worst (for me): "Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon?" If I wanted to play a JRPG, I'd do so. I don't need an anime TRYING to be a JRPG.

Best anime I’ve seen in my opinion is Dragon Ball Z. I didn’t know much of the story back then but the idea of people fighting each other and shooting lasers from their hands really hyped me up as a child.

Worst is Ghost Stories. It’s so bad that it’s actually good.

Anime isn't exactly a high quality genre. Like my 'best' picks are tied between Ghost in the Shell 2 and Spriggan (1998.) Both extremely flawed. Same as Gurren-Lagann or Planetes or Space Force or Space Patrol Luluco.

The Slayers is probably my oldest, dearest favorite.

That was probably my first when I was getting out of the childish "what do you mean it's not an American cartoon?" phase.

My real first would probably be Fables of the Green Forest, or Grendizer, or one of the World Masterpiece Theater adaptations.

"Voltron" is insulting ♥♥♥♥ compared to the real GoLion, same as "Star Blazers."

Ranma 1/2 is probably the greatest masterpiece to come out of the 80s, since the English version was uncensored, and all the non-Japanese characters were given hilarious accents in the dub. I <3 Tabitha and Cathy and Kikuko and Ian.

Ah ghost stories. "JUST PRETEND YOUR RUNNING FORM A BIG BLACK MAN!" ghost stories. For those wondering the original was so badly written and banal the guys in charge of the dub were told, by the distributer, to just go nuts and have fun with it, anything they come up with is better than what's there. Thus an offiicial abridged series cut was born.

If you want actually well written interesting ghost stories, look up Ghost Hunt.
