No, it's not retro. I also doubt it's older than most people here. Even if it was, it still isn't retro. People need to stop trying to change the meaning of "retro games" to encompass 3D games. It doesn't. Even N64/PS1 stands on shaky ground, but anything past that is unequivocally and factually NOT retro.

The ps2 is 24 years old; people from back then are boomers now. :SaintPius: There was no multiplayer, no updates, no online store. Nothing. :DLskull: Compared to now it's like steam engine vs electric. I declare the ps2 and dreamcast to be retro. :dreamcast:

The internet and online multiplayer games absolutely did exist back then. Xbox had a TON of online multiplayer games, PS2 had a LAN adapter for use with some online games, PC online gaming was booming. Your argument isn't even remotely true.

There is no "psuedointellectual akshuallying" happening here. Your opening post was incorrectly associated with a term that it is not included in. It's not nitpicking, you're just wrong.

A retro game typically refers to video games that were released in earlier generations of gaming, often from the late 1970s to the early 2000s. Here are some common criteria that define retro games:

Release Date: Generally, games released before the 2000s are considered retro. The exact cutoff can vary, with some considering games as retro if they are 15-20 years old or more.

Technology: Retro games often feature older technology and graphics, such as 8-bit or 16-bit graphics, and are typically associated with older gaming consoles like the Atari, NES, Sega Genesis, and early PCs.

Gameplay Mechanics: Many retro games have simpler gameplay mechanics compared to modern games, often focusing on straightforward objectives and less complex narratives.

Cultural Impact: Some games are labeled as retro due to their significant impact on gaming culture, influencing subsequent game design or becoming iconic in their own right.

Nostalgia: The term “retro” is also tied to nostalgia, as many players have fond memories of these games from their childhood or early gaming experiences.

Overall, while the definition can vary among gamers and communities, the combination of age, technology, and cultural significance typically defines what counts as a retro game.
