Is the Death Star solar powered?
Think about it. It would take so much energy to power it for all those years.

it was postulated that aside from ewoks-derived methane gas, the death star also extracts the fart of darth sidius.

on a serious note, it is more likely that the death star has some sort of hydrogen/helium reactor as these elements are abundant in nature.

also, it will likely have some form of matter/antimatter reactor.

This is Star Wars we're talking about, they could've discovered elements that are not known in our world.

It is cealry stated it uses an anti-matter reactor.. WTF, is with all you people commenting like the film doesn't exactly state what BS science is going on. You don't need to make up more BS science for it..

Which is something we have barely began to study in the past half century, they could be using pony's fart magic for all we know.

"...in a galaxy far, far, away."

Does it not make you think that MAYBE, just MAYBE, they have more advanced technology than us?

so you say the death star is powered by unknown elements? ;)

the question pertains of what you think and not what you can't name or unknown discovery.

There is a difference between having advanced or different technology.

Far, far, away my friend.
You all die in a glue fire. But at diffrent times.. I wouldn't want the DEATH STAR to get blaimed of it, since it is powered by magic and rainbows... Good lord, all you people LOVE EP4, watch it again, and what comes from Mon Mothma's mouth during the debriefing?

Please just let the damned thread die..

Even if you covered the entire Death Star in solar panels, it would hardly provide the energy for its internal systems, let alone the weapons. I've compared the use of solar energy in multiple fictional universes in order to come up with a proper answer. In the Total Annihilation universe, solar collectors provide enough energy to produce low-level technology, whereas energy for any advanced tech is gained from geo-thermal plants and later nuclear fusion. In the Metal Fatigue universe, solar panels provide a mere trickle of energy, which is the main resource and is mostly gathered at lava pools. In the Command and Conquer universe, the ECA (a faction from the mod Rise of the Reds) uses a satelite to focus solar rays into a concentrated beam of light and direct it at a reactor on the ground to create the needed heat for nuclear fusion without use of radioactive materials. No matter how you look at it, fusion reactors are definitely the most common. So unless it's used like the ECA does, the Death Star couldn't possibly run with solar energy.

Yea.. thanks for that.

Still a stared antimatter reactor.. . Just stop replying to this stupid thread..

except in stargate universe, the destiny ship can harvest 'solar power' directly from a sun (yellow or blue) and store it to power its hyperdrive and sublight engines and for life support.

Any star, not too hot for the shields.. A blue pretty much assures from any active star.
In the end, don't forget that Star Wars belongs to the genre called science-fiction, and technology is often explained in an at least scientific manner, even if it wouldn't work in real life. That's why it's fiction. Please don't forget the science part as well in discussions about science-fiction.
