PC Disc Drive Recognizes the Name of Some PS2 Games and Not Others, Why is That?
  • When I insert Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition into my PC's disc drive the drive reads as
    follows:
"DVD RW Drive (D:) DEVIL3SE"
0 bytes free of 4.10 GB
CDFS

  • Conversely, when I insert some PS2 games (Raw Danger for example) the disc drive reads as follows:
"DVD RW Drive (D:) "
0 bytes free of 1.50 GB
CDFS
  • So my only question is "why?" I would like to find a throughline or pattern.
  • Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal (black label box) appears as RATCHETANDCLANK3
  • Soulcaliber III (black label box) does not appear
  • Red Faction (black label box) appears as SLUS20073 (This is the ID of the game)
  • Red Faction II does not appear
  • Kingdom Hearts (black label box) does not appear
  • Burnout 3 (greatest hits) appears as SLUS_21050 (For other games that use the ID I've seen a "GH" added at the end to signify Greatest Hits)
This is just a list of the games I own.

PS2 games were literally DVDs.
PS1 used CDs and with PS3 they used BluRay discs.
Yes, I know that.
