Female gamers on steam
So recently I was going through my friends list an I noticed that 46 of my friends were male and 5 of them were female so I thought why is it that we don't have as many female gamers as we do male post below what you think the cause is and how we can get more women into gaming I personally think it is because of the media and other stuff like that and also I think some girls find it embracing.
I mean I wouldn't game if my friends. So I think there should be more women and games as it is kind of stereotyping!

Oh... You might have made a boo-boo calling me in. Of the three on my friends list,2 are women. And until someone tells me the are, or I talk with them in game, I never know or worry about what sex a person is. Heck, I only file sex away as a reference so I know how to reply to them in chat on the fly.

It's just a gender

I think that a lot of girls just don't find many video games that interesting. Of my friends on steam, 2 out of 8 are female. Some girls just find it more fun than others.

What is this "girl" you speak of?

I feel it's very dependant on the game type and age. I have a few gamer friends who are female and they play 40k etc. :steamhappy:

Actually, I find it weird that we make diffrences between the sexes in game anymore period

As a robot I'm impartial to the gender argument. I have both male and female connectors. I find it odd that humans seem to consider their connectors with such importance.

The majority doesn't really care what gender the other peson is, because it makes no difference here. We may as well all be little girls.

Though, to stay on topic the few legitimate girls I've met in games typically pretend to be guys because they get hit on fairly frequently.

I know a lot of you will likely hate me for saying this, but the reason there isnt a lot of female gamers on steam (or ones you know of) is because of some male gamers.

Of all the friend requests I get, probably 25% of them are game related (as I am a mod and people friend request me for some reason), and probably the other 75% are people trying to get in my pants. I know, crazy right. You dont know how many times ive had to remove someone because they tried to be "too friendly" to me. And before you say that its just a coincidence, my one girlfriend has the same happen to her in the same position, and my one male friend who also moderates for the same forums I do gets less than 1/4 the requests I get.

Most of my female friends dont openly tell people they are female so they dont have guys breathing down their neck 24/7. A number of them tell others they are male instead so people will stop bothering them. And yes, they are hardcore PCgamers, not some casual.

Again, just my experiance

Pretty sure there are more than you know, most just don't say it anywhere because they're afraid of unwanted attention or whatever. Also, the friends list of a female gamer will obviously have lots of guys in it, because they think we're hella cool.
