Yandere Simulator game-content question
So my kid is interested in playing this game. She is 10, and not sheltered. She enjoys Five Nights at Freddy's, Surgeon Simulator, various creepy pastas, and various horror flicks. Violence is not really an issue, as she understands the difference between reality and make-believe. However.. given the nature of the game (and the general meaning of the word Yandere) I am concerned about sexual content in the game.

I have no issues with monitoring gameplay for games of a violent nature, we can laugh about that together. And while she is mature for her age, I am not interested in allowing her to play a game that may (and likely does) have sexual content in it.

:fukidashi: THE QUESTION: :fukidashi:
From someone whom has played the game, would you say this would be okay for my kid to play.. or should we steer clear until she is older? Is the violence on par or less than the Saw movie series? If there is sexual content, would it be allowed on a show like Big Bang Theory or other semi-family-oriented television?

:t0tonberry: I really appreciate the response. She is very interested, and I would like to let her play it.. but I need to know if it is appropriate for her first, and the information I have found so far isn't clear on the breadth of it's content.

Just watch some gameplay footage and decide for yourself.

Not a clue, possibly post on the blog or check their wiki. Game isn't on steam because it contains content beyond what is allowed.

I had intended to do that when I had the time, but she asked me about it before work this evening and I was hoping to not have to watch *insert however many hours of gameplay that game is* if someone that was experienced with it could tell me from experience. Your idea would be the optimal way to find out, I agree. And when I have time to do so, if I don't find the information I need here, I will certainly be doing just that.

Excellent resources! Thank you all for the responses. I will review all of it this evening at work so I can give her an answer before school in the morning.

A bit off topic, but the ironically named School Days, created by the madman who crapped out The You Testament (not sure I can actually say his name without inadvertently triggering the word filter), also involves silly school violence but doesn't really have sexual content. Might be worth checking out. It is a mobile app, though.

The more I look, the more I don't think Yandere Sim is appropriate for her.. so I will be checking out your suggestions soon I think. Thank you.

Well, based on what I found, it does in a sense encourage harassment in which it might sexually belittle a teenage girl. As the game revolves with you abusing and harassing other girls, you can take pics of a girl's panties and use that to humiliate her.

In the current state of the game, Yandere can sneak under students' skirts, capture snapshots of their briefs, and send these photos to her distribution contact, Info-chan. Which in turn, Info-chan will trade you weapons, information about other students, and spare uniforms.

In the game, you can take pictures of other students' bodies. And since it is sorta frowns upon by society as "creepshots", it may influence others to do the same in real life as well.

My opinion is, that, only you know your child best and you'll what is the best for her.

10 may be a bit too young, but I've seen other kids who play simulator games, like GTA, and they don't go around killing people.

The game completely ignores the predatory nature of high school communities, with abuse being used as a tool for satisfaction.

It doesn't sound too bad for me, but you'll never know how one could handle it.

I appreciate your input. While I was on the fence about it since my kid is mature enough and knowledgeable enough that I feel she could handle this.. I ultimately decided against letting her play it. I felt that if I was unsure about it's content, and found some of the content inappropriate for her age (panty shots and what-not) I felt it best to give a no on this one.

Have got to say, that is probably a good call. Go you on the awesome parenting, by the way. It's nice to see parents and kids communicating like that. Gives me hope.
