Best Final Fantasy games on PC right now?
I'm curious to know which is one of the best Final Fantasy games on PC are right now. I've been wanting to get into the series for a long time.

Apparently FF14 totally sucked at first, but the reboot of FF14, "A Realm Reborn", made it Actually Pretty Darn Good, from what I've heard. Still, though, it's an MMO, and I can totally understand not being into that sort of game.

Tactics Advance (GBA) at the very least has an excellent soundtrack and pretty fun gameplay, even if the story is pretty rubbish. I haven't played Tactics A2 (DS). The original Tactics itself (PS1) is reportedly really good, even despite its rubbish translation, and the Lion War version (PSP) of it I've heard fixes the translation.
Original Tactics was probably one of my favorite games on PSX. I WISH it were on PC. I'll just have to live with Disgaea coming in a month or two. I didn't play it after the relaunch Realm Reborn. I hear it is alright at the best of times. I'll just keep my MMO full of Jedi, I guess.
Heh. Well, I don't MMO at all myself.

Just a fun suggestion off the top of my mind, if you like tactical stuff: Energy Breaker.

I might have mentioned it before. It's like my favorite little-known-but-surprisingly-good game.

I wouldn't recommend FFIII to begin the series since it's easily the hardest one (or fights directly with FFI for this trophy). The end game is just insane. 2 entire dungeons and 5/6 bosses in a row, without save points lol

FFIV on pc is not that friendly as well, and probably require some grind...

FFVI/VII/VIII right now are the pc best choices for beginners, since they pretty much require zero grind and not much strategy atleast for the main quest. IX counts as well, soon as it reaches Steam...

I don't think FFXIII is as bad as people tends to say, but it's definitely not a RPG like experience. It's more like a "menu driven hack'n'slash" hipster new genre and requires an open mind to be enjoyable. But it's certainly an unique game...

If I heard correctly, the DS remake (which is the one on Steam) toned down the difficulty of the original.

Yep, but it's still pretty hard in a FF standard. The NES version was like "if you don't use exactly this and this classes, it's virtually impossible" while the DS versions was not as bad but still no walk in the park...

FF1 is pathetic. Normal battles can be won by spamming the Attack command and the bosses didn't take much either (though the bosses from the other FF games can be hard).

GBA version? Older FFI versions you could like get a instant game over if you're unlucky to enter in a battle with too many enemies lol

FFVII is what I would usually recommend people start on - not just because it's my personal favourite, but also because it's one of the easiest to get used to - the materia system is a simple way of customising your characters without having to switch 'jobs' like some of the earlier games in the series, and it doesn't involve the commitment to learning skills that FFX uses.

As a beginner I would avoid FFVIII like wildfire as it has quite a complicated battle/leveling system and it doesn't really represent the series standard. That's not to say it isn't good.

I haven't heard great things about the PC ports though... if you can pick up FFX HD on PS4 then that might be good place to start too, though the leveling system takes some planning out.

I've had trouble convincing people to keep playing the SNES age FFs.

Gaming has just moved on so much since then, in all aspects.

Nostalgia is a powerful force.

And then the PS era ones have really dated graphics which is a turn off for many.

FFXIII trilogy would be on the other hand introduce them to the series and keep them playing. After that they could play VII, when they are hooked.
