Any games with an inspiring story?
It seems like games these days can not put together a story that can inspire people. Yes, there are GREAT story lines in games, but most of it goes through violence and war and it usually fails to trigger the emotional side of me. I want a game that can inspire me, maybe even make me cry. I'm talking about games such as "To the Moon", "Heavy Rain", "Final Fantasy VII". Those have all compelling stories. I want games that will make me CARE about the main characters, HURT me when a main character is hurt. I enjoy blowing the heads off of zombies as much as the next guy, but I think we all need something compelling once in a while.

Any suggestions? Thanks, and happy holidays! :D

The Witcher series also have some of the best stories seen in games in a long time.

They owe this to the excellent five-books series by Andrzej Sapkowski that they are based on. Some of the most enjoyable and off-the-beaten-track fantasy I've read (in their excellent German translations a few years back; the English "localization" is still missing the fifth book). I recommend the series highly (also the short story collections), especially if you plan to re-play the games after reading. You'll bump from one "Aha!" moment into the next. :)

Little Inferno has a good story and gives you feelings of care. Shame it's so short for its price point. If it goes to 75% at any point pick it up!

Mass Effect 1 (Yes, only the first part. Do not touch the 2 and 3, you will be greatly disappointed )

Well, the second one has some really heart-wrenching follower (?) storylines!

I have to agree with some of the suggestions here, Mass Effect 2 is a great game and you don't have to play ME1 to get it. It truly was a first for many things, but the storyline is simply superb and immersive. The graphics and the expansive universe and sideplots are linked and feel organic, and after a while, you truly feel part of the world and the character development lets you care for your companions and their own paths. The other game is Walking Dead. Although there is less freedom (if we can say there is any), the storyline reads like a movie, and your role is essentially to watch and click as the plot develops. You do get some degree of choice in who lives and who dies.. but the revelations will shock you. Nevertheless, the story in WD1 is well worth it, and the characters are rich and interesting. If you have read the comics, or if you are watching the series on TV, this game is not quite a clone of the tv series, but ther are similarities in events but the atmosphere is spot on replicated in the game. WD2 wasn't as much fun for me as WD1, but the plot does become more intense and the focus in the story shifts to concentrate more on certain characters. Have fun!

LISA the Painful

This game will destroy your emotions.

By the judge of things so would a coloring book featuring the cast of Sesame Street.
Fair enough.

People find different things emotional and/or inspiring, so I can't hold this against you.

I personally, however, found this game constantly sending me into a state of worry and compassion for some of the characters.

Once again though, to each his own.

Was a pleasant thread to see again ... story in games ... something that matters a lot to me personally.
