Steam forum censorship
Steam should add an option for people to choose if they want to see censorship in the forums or not.
I'm sick of everything being censored out there, and no choices of avoiding it.
I'd rather see the damn 'F' word than those black hearts, makes it feel as if Steam is dumbing itself down to a accommodate a more family friendly demographic, which, marketing wise, makes sense. But it's annoying.
Also, what the hell is up with engaging threads being locked or deleted? Why are any forum games locked nearly immediately, and while I understand why political or "argumentative" threads are frowned upon (people are unpredictable and aggressive, sure. But that's why there are block options and reporting) I still think that the rules on that could be lightened up a bit.
Nit picky, sure, but surely someone else out there sees what I mean when I say that these things are rather annoying and even irritating.
Maybe someone out there can change my view.

:conwayshrug: Why? Don't you already know all the dirty words, and can't you work out what they mean by context? And letter count?

I think a lot of forum posts are funnier with the censure. Kind of like

I get what you mean, but it's the principle of it, almost pandering to those who are easily offended by such words, which is why it should at least be made a choice for those who aren't offended to not be affected.
While it's amusing to some, all I see are black hearts that I can't tell the meaning behind, I do see where it can be more amusing left up to the imagination, but it's still a bit irritating to me.

It's a family-centric forum. You are not supposed to use profanity in the first place. I get why they do it. But I can see where you are coming from.
Dogui 23/dez./2015 às 23:42
A choice to turn censorship off would be nice indeed...

Even 4chan and probably other common place names on the internet are censored for reasons

I guess you have a point, in the way that any 12 yo kid could turn it off and it's hard for Valve to track user's age. But dunno, i think they could try to make something about that...

I never was aware Steam was overall family-centric, I know they have some sort of a family option (unless I'm thinking of something else, can't be as.sed to check) but why not leave it at that? Or have a separate set of forums that are dedicated to family friendly topics, but leave the default forums to the freedom of the Internet.
Seems like there could be a best of both worlds type system opportunity to make at least a majority of users happy.

Oh no. That stays censerd forever. And should result in a ban, We don't need that kind of foul language here.

Profanity is an invention by people who thought that certain words were bad. Which is stupid because the words on their own have no negative value for people who have never heard them before. lol

True. It's rather annoying.
Problem is though, if a 12 yo kid did find the option to switch it off in the settings, isn't that technically no longer Steams problem, as they tried to implement a "protection" system, but the user itself opted to turn it off? Similar to the store age restriction system, where if you try to view a M rated game, it'll ask for your birthday, and you can enter any year to go in and view it, you can even change the year from 1912 to 1935 without any sort of problem. Any 8 year old kid can do it, and probably has.
So why not let the same rebel kid who won't let the 'man' restrict him subject himself to some profanity? Chances are he's been exposed to it in that game trailer he saw on Steam after lying about his age anyway.
