Part of it comes from being able to get away from the masses.

One of the surest ways to stop success is to listen to others' opinions. With many people it always can't be done, there won't be any demand for it, it is always years away, not people like us, it will cost too much...

Perhaps tuning others out is more important than so called "talent."

I keep track of time while making art, including when I start, finish, and how long a piece takes me to complete, and I’ve notice how a majority of those start and end points are between 3 and 5 in the morning.

It’s 4:24 am right now, and I’ve been thinking about getting some more progress in before I go to be in an hour or so.
