Why is it that when someone disagrees with you they are racist or mysoginist? Or some other ism?

I just see alot of people here in off topic use the labels racist and mysoginist, or some other ism when they have disagreements. It kind of annoys me.

I personally don't name-call if I can help it (but I'm not immune.). I miss the days when we could have heated (but respectful) debates with people we disagree with, while acknowledging the other persons personhood and good intent.

I grew up in a politically and religiously split family, but we knew how to talk nice to each other around the dinner table. Sadly, that seems to be a lost skill.

People who make those accusations do so because they have no actual arguments on which to back up their position. So the only way they’re able to “win” the debate or discussion is by tearing the other person down.
