I leveled a character to 100 back when I was a teenager and the N64 was the latest console. I thought Gauntlet 64 was awesome.
I can't do it now. It's just killing 100,000 harmless little goblins with the same attack over and over again.
I don't expect others to feel that way, though. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes.
You should probably play the original. The original is always better.
Diablo 2 has always been a bit easy. It's not that it can't be difficult at certain moments, but most of the time it's not very difficult, and you can just run past most enemies or escape from them very easily. You don't have to unlive anything, apart from a few bosses maybe.
D3 way better then D4, I could play D3 all day and night if I could get away with it.
The ambiance is also amazing!
Very few games have toped that since then.
Its like Jurassic World. It is what Disney is doing to Star Wars®. "Its cannon because we hold the effing copyrights and we're telling you so, consumer slave."
I'd say we open-source all of those and create our own dojinshi by now. It'd be more valid than those distortions by Trillionaire conglomerates.
You really didn't say whether or not it was a good game, though?
It's a good game.
It's one of the best games ever made.
That doesn't mean you have to like it and that doesn't mean only good games are not boring... either. "Boring" is all on you and we all, as gamers, know that we all don't find the same games boring, right?
D2 doesn't have the depth of systems that many ARPG players expect, today. In fact... it basically invented those systems, so what you're experiencing is the ground floor.
But, its design is outstanding. Not just for "its day," but as a gameplay experience. And, it's "end game" forms the basis for most end-game ARPG gameplay loops, today.
Many players don't go far into the "end-game" gameplay loop experience dealing with crafting Rune Words and unlocking and finally conquering Uber Tristram, etc. They don't. And, that's OK, too - The wild thing about D2 is that you can still get a very rewarding play experience even if you don't push the end-game.
But, you don't have to like it. That's fine. You can even be bored - That's fine, too. You're used to more depth in some places, more fiddly bits in others, etc... That's fine.
The only thing that's really wrong here is that you played an Alliance Paladin in World of Warcraft. .. :)
FOR THE HORDE!
Good to know, was waiting until it was around 15 bucks to buy it.
That is because it was not boring to millions of players.
That said, I have put many many hours into D2 and to this day I can still get alot of enjoyment out of it. Maybe its cause ive been playing it since it came out. If you went to D2 from D3 or something newer, it might feel somewhat dated. But if you are familiar with other games of that era, it wont be so bad.
For me the fun is in developing a kickass character. Once you get to level 80+ you feel like a badass. The endgame is quite repetitive though and farming for god tier gear is extremely time consuming and sometimes not even worth the effort.
If you want my advice, play with a group of friends. Its best as a multiplayer game. And dont get your hopes up finding the best gear in the game.
It's owned by Blizzard. PoE is free, with paid in game items.
Then there is Amazon one you can find on here... I don't plan on ever touching that one.
That doesnt prevent anyone from making open source engine re-implementations.
Anyone with a valid copy of d1 or d2 can import their own assets into these engines.
There are similar projects for games like Morrowind
This is how Doom is run on modern machines. It's called a source port.
