I don't know if they changed it recently, but if they did. No, there is not going back.

You can check if they changed it by going to the internet archive website, paste the Youtube link in the search bar, and look at the snapshots.

do you mean the one where all the recommended videos are like super huge and in a grid, while the comments are scooted over to the right side of the screen? it's like they swapped places. I hate it

Not that I know. I never log-in as all I do is watch stuff. This just happened overnight so to speak.

No, changes for the sake of it is the norm in big tech because they are full of overpaid engineers that have to change (and ruin) stuff to justify their job.
