Multiplayer online gaming has become so boring.
Multiplayer online gaming has become so boring.

Originally, decades ago, we played to connect with other people, to challenge other human beings and so on, nowadays this mostly seems to be blown away as first off, there is next to no communication anymore and because if people do so, they isolate themselves in small groups hiding somewhere on Discord.

Hopping into public servers with randoms, is basically the same as playing singleplayer as depending of the game, there is zero communication, most of the time people won't even throw in a " hi " or " good luck ".

Its just everyone for themselves nowadays.

This was completely different, as a comparison, I still remember playing Call of Duty back in 2003 or 2004, and how people used the chat for small talk and exchange here and there, while today its completely dead, which I assume is perhaps also down to people only using consoles and not having a keyboard.
But they also dont talk most of the time either.

Is there anyone else who has experienced it like this ?

For me multiplayer games have become so boring due to this, it does not feel like playing with or against human beings, it feels like a singleplayer experience and its just getting worse from here.

Whenever I found a game where communication is more of a thing, where I get some life signs, its usually pretty amazing, but other than that.

Even in slower strategy games like Age of Empires, people are basically just not engaging with others AT ALL, except for the random quitter who hurls an insult into the chat and leaves.

I am gonna say this might also be a reflection of our generally more anti-social society ? I have no idea, I just believe that its not very healthy.

Multiplayer used to be about connecting to friends.

Now its about connecting to a mega corps digital store.

Yeah man, it seems like it. Especially since many games are made about you buying more stuff rather than taking challenges with friends or making friends.

Bext example is how WOW once was and is now.

I played EQ1 and EVE Online back when all we had was teamspeak and chat boxes in game. The Games didn't change, the people did.

Of course its the people, I mean the games still offer all these options, even beyond that with every game having an integrated VOIP option nowadays.

But what the hell is it with people ??? What is so enjoyable and fun about not talking to anyone in a video game, to share a few things, to chit-chat a little, why do they even start up multiplayer in the first place.

Non of this makes any sense to me.

Both are true. Saying otherwise is disingenuous.
Matchmaking, balance, progress and style have all been changed to encourage spending in a store.
This change makes the games appealing to a different, broader audience, in the same way Fast food is.

But wouldn't the market adjust to what the people want and not shape the people itself ?
I mean they wouldn't offer all this nonsense if people would not care about it.

90% of time I can't identify with most players around me anyway, not in regards to what maps or playstyle they like compared to mine even.

Perhaps. I don't know, either way...this is what it is NOW and it really sucks.

I feel even a bit sad for the younger generations because they don't even know what they are missing out on. It must be the same feeling all the people felt for us, the people who experienced the 60s and 70s as young men and women, as by the looks of it, this time looks pretty fun.

I mean hippies, woodstock and so on, no smartphone, no people being clued to their phones, no TikTok or Insta, just people being people, in the real world, engaging with each other on a daily basis.

Technology is great but the internet and computers " for the people " have really degenerated society and created a black hole for society and socialising.

You aren't alone in this thought. There are world governments just as concerned by the levels of degeneracy their youth are showing after being chronically online. I watched a video about China as an example. They've put up rehabs everywhere for these kids to learn how to be human again.

The market is managed by psychologists paid to alter what you want. So that's a tricky question.
They have metrics and algorithms all focused on turning "players into payers"
Things like FOMO, battle-passes, start bundles, matchmaking and in-game prrogress are tightly manufactured not for fun, not to be competitive, but to make you spend.
Acti-Blizz patented a matchmaking system for this a decade ago and everyone seems to forget.
You arent being matched against a player of equal skill, but a player that is wearing a skin that the GAME has decided based on profiling that you would like. That player will wreck you.
Now theres a tiny part of your mind that thinks "good players wear that skin"
It's a whole thing.
