I actually think 3 was a little better than 2, but otherwise I agree.

4 did have a cool little bit in it right at the start but it was just so bad all the rest of the time.

I don't think the sequels were bad, but I don't think they were nearly as good as the first movie.

I think part of it is the original has a lot of mystery to it, and the mystery is lost once Neo enters the real world and starts living in Zion.

Another is I don't think the directors took it in a great direction. Like the Smith program rebelling against the Architect. How is that even possible? The Architect should be able to just delete Smith.

You can tell it's fake because of the green tint. That was a thing in the sixth Matrix, and they did away with it in the 4th movie.

Except the godawful Neo vs thousand Smiths fight that was so plastic and unrealistic that it made 80s stop-motion movies look like state of the art masterpieces.
It felt like all the CGI took a step back compared to original one.

It's also kind of hilarious, two decades later, how they edited in cartoon sound effects in that fight.

And I'm not talking exaggerated punch sounds or whatever, I mean when Neo knocks down a group of Smiths all at once, they literally put in the sound of bowling pins falling over. I guess just in case you forgot you were watching a Warmer Bros movie?

I dunno if I just didn't notice it all those years ago or if it just didn't seem weird at the time but when I did my last watch I had to rewind it to be sure.

^Pretty solid thriller IMO. Honest opinion I don't feel like Neo the One would ever be a bad guy, not that I'd mind either way.
