What's a true American?
Do you believe that America is a nation of immigrants and that anyone from anywhere can become an American, or do you consider only those of the original British stock to be true Americans? I ask this because I’ve noticed that some British people think immigrants aren’t really British even after they’ve immigrated.

I do know that the WASPs (White Anglo Saxon Protestant) think that they are the only true Americans. It does not matter how far your family goes back, if you are not a WASP then you are a lesser human and can't be a real American. Sad how much racism exists in the world.

American is my pronoun so idgaf. I'm american. You can call me whatever you like, but that doesn't change the fact that my spirit is american. Maybe I was born in the wrong body at the wrong time, doesn't change who I am.

You're probably from some european or african country if you live in the US right now. But I highly doubt you're "american". Identities are full of lies, a lot of peoples lie to themselves and pretend to be someone else. But you know what don't lie ? Genetics.

Multiple groups can claim the title. Most of them overlap to a high degree, but that is geographic coincidence.

The people that invoke some sort of purity test are the only ones I actively disown.

Some of my favorite moments captured on video are ignorant anti-immigration protesters telling native americans (sometimes members of congress) to "go back to Mexico".

Senator Armstrong is a true American. But only because he played college ball. Could've gone pro if he didn't join the navy.

Your question implies there are false Americans out there as well.

Americans are more than just British stock, there are French (New Orleans), Dutch (New York), German, Irish, Spanish (San Diego) and Portuguese in that mix, however the majority is British with French next.

Also not forgetting the slave trade that went on, those people from Africa were held in chains and forced to serve new masters in the new world, a lot of them escaped when the war broke out and spread out across the entire Americas.

Anyone who is a citizen of any of the countries of North or South America is technically an American.

It's why products made in Mexico or Canada can have the "Made in America" sticker.

America is just what the huge region of land was called before everyone started carving it up.

I'm a citizen of the U.S.A. because "America" isn't a nation.

That isn't true. I just gave it a label. And I can assure you that as a "fake" american,
OK, let's take a look.

It's in your heart and in your mind. It's a sort of knowing. If you know you are american you just know. You don't take ♥♥♥♥ from anyone, and you generally don't give anyone ♥♥♥♥.
That's not remotely exclusive to America and it seems most people on the planet Earth want to have that attitude. And that's also ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. People in this country take a lot of ♥♥♥♥ and do nothing about it. I recently watched a video of a young White kid having a panic attack get shot in the head multiple times by a cop and die. Where was the outrage over that? There was none. People just accepted some pig murdering one of our children and went on watching football and drinking beer.

You do whatever you want and you don't ask.
Where in this country can you do whatever you want?

You don't trespass (unless you are fishing or doing some harmless juvenile crap in the woods), you don't steal,
That's funny, because the robbers of the Wild West or the mobsters of Prohibition are an integral part of America's cultural history and now you're saying they're not. Do you see how ridiculous this is? You have a definition of what is and isn't "American" and so does everyone else. There's nothing actually grounding any of it and it's all subjective and arbitrary.

you don't intentionally disrespect people but you also don't care if someone is offended.
Is that why there's so many patriotic types that get off on waving the flag and talking crap at the "libs"? What if they don't consider you an "American" for doing the same thing?

You like to work hard and play hard. We like to help each other and take care of each other. We protect each other. We trust each other.
Literally every culture tries to be like this. This isn't remotely "American".

I'm no European.
I mean, if you're White, then yes you are. Unless you're some kind of self-hating White person that disowns their heritage like most White people these days.

Also, if there is no such thing as an american there can be no such thing as a native american.
Why not? They're actually native to the Americas. They have their own tribal names, but they are just condensed into "Native Americans" or "Amerindians". Why can they not be regarded as natives even though that's factually what they are?

By the way, I think it's more important how people identify themselves these days, amirite?
I guess, but the "American" identification is meaningless. It's a manufactured identity for a consumerisitic society of people.

A true American? Any person actually native to the lands. You know, the ones before the European marauders crossed the Pond.
Would you say the same, then, for Middle Easterners and North Africans living in France, England, Germany, Scotland, Ireland, Sweden, or Denmark?

Or nah?

Nah, right?

For some people, it is important to be consistent. For others, not so much.

Is the same true, in your opinion, for "French" or "British" or "German"?

Remember: consistency.

Thankfully someone else is actually speaking sense in this thread. There's no such thing as "American" and never will be. It's a made up crock of ♥♥♥♥ for people that want the illusion of uniqueness.
