Nontraditional NES, SNES, and Genesis games?
By nontraditional, I mean games that don't easily fall into traditional genres like platformers, shmups, beatem ups, RPG's, fighters, ect... I've played all these genres to death on these consoles.

I'm looking for more unique games like Ignition Factor, Pilot Wings, Desert Strike, Sub-Terrania, Shining Force, Solar Jetman, ect...

There's a Tarot Card 'game' for the NES.

Also

A Boy and His Blob - NES
Solstice - NES
Marble Madness - NES
Wall Street Kid - NES

♥♥♥♥ I loved that little 8bit box.

+1 for Actraiser. It combined side scroller combat with city building.

There's a new Actraiser on the Switch. It's not too bad.

Solstice has made me it's ♥♥♥♥♥ more times than I can count. I've never even come close to beating it.

I also agree that the NES is a beast

Ogre Battle on the SNES is a bit unique. It's a strategy game where you capture towns and cities on a map and send out units. But you don't directly control them in battle. You can only control their formation when you build them, assigning different types of soldiers to a unit.

It also had a card game based on tarot cards. You could draw a card when you captured a city and then use cards to influence the game.

Ogre Battle and Ogre Battle 64 were the only ones in the series that I know of. Ogre Battle 64 lost the card game mechanics. There was a spinoff called Tactics Ogre but it's not a true Ogre Battle game is more comparable to Final Fantasy Tactics.

There is a spiritual successor on the Switch called Unicorn Overlord that is basically just a new Ogre Battle game. The same core concepts are there. Vanillaware did the artwork and it all looks like Ogre Battle, except in high quality HD graphics.

There was a sexy witch in both Ogre Battle games called Deneb, and while being a tad evil she was a great ally if you convinced her to join your side. Unicorn Overlord has a witch class of heroes you can get and the witch Yahna is immortal like Deneb. Like I said, spiritual successor.

And also very valuable, even for a used copy.

But you really need that chart that shows who changes into what or you're gonna be lost.

I still have my N64 and a copy of Ogre Battle 64. It looks like it's not worth quite as much as the SNES version.

Don't have my SNES anymore.

I do not have my SNES version anymore but I do have my Playstation 1 version. I just don't have a Playstation as I used BLEEM back in the day.

They aren't the same game. SNES Ogre Battle was ported to PS1, but not to N64. Ogre Battle 64 is a whole other game.

Yes I've played both. The 64 version didn't have the tarot cards. Some of them were crazy powerful in the SNES game.

Demons Crest or Blaster Master, are ones I remember. Not sure if you played them.

The PS1 port has a different angle of view too. On SNES you only get the angled top down view. On PS1 you get the true top down view. PS1 can also save mid battle map. It's not as important today, but back before emulators and save states, this meant you could save scum treasure findings on PS1, but not on SNES. This meant a lot of people on PS1 had dream crowns way early in the game.

No. They are quite literally different games. Not just no tarot cards. They are straight up different games.

Incidentally, Unicorn Overlord is a game that came out this year and similar to that style of game. You have to get a few hours in and past tutorials to really see it start to shine, but it's there.
