It's fine by me. Too many crap games are being released. Indie devs won't hire union workers if they want to keep costs down.
This news of the week video touches on it

this will halt garbage games
That's a different guild.
Bummer.
My biggest issue is that there will not be a reduction of unit cost despite the cheaper production cost. Excess executive bonuses and shareholder dividends benefit from the use of AI.
The voice actors and motion capture actors etc. can retrain and get new careers, or something.
Go ahead, put hindrances on ai. Because China won't give a crap about that and will surpass us then. But America is so easily swayed by emotions in voting they might be dumb enough to let it happen.
Why hinder progress that will happen anyways?
Ironically the AI fear issue for this strike is the very reason AI voice work will be taken more seriously in the future.
No strikes, no payments, no waiting around on voice actors. It's a far more simpler and cheaper solution going full AI voice acting with no disruption of any type. the more these voice actors strike and the longer they strike the less likely game developers and publisher will be interested in retaining their services now there is a second option.
These voice actors need to be very careful about how they express their position.
