Vance is just another mouthpiece. When Trump went against Mike Pence, he base suddenly did a 180 and immediately also denounced Mike Pence as a traitor, despite Trump previously trusting him to be his VP. I can see Vance as being another "fall guy" as soon as something goes wrong and Trump needs someone to blame.

He KNOWS his base will go along with him, and if he needs to throw JD Vance under the bus, he'll do it, and his base will follow suit. Let's not pretend or act like anyone in the Republican Party actually LIKES Vance. They like only so far as Trump is willing to tolerate him. Trump's VPs exist as scapegoats for his own failures.I mean, let's be honest. It's not like Trump's base would EVER consider ANY other Republican candidate or politician to be "effective" or even an "acceptable alternative" to him.

I don't think it can be understated how much faith and loyalty his base has to him, and ONLY him. You could go ahead and put up ANYBODY ELSE as a Republican candidate, and they would NEVER accept them simply because their name ISN'T Trump. When people are THIS devoted to an individual, then the idea of ANYONE else being an acceptable alternative just doesn't exist.

It's why his base gets accused of being a cult. If you simply voted along party lines but actually considered other candidates to be acceptable, you wouldn't put all your eggs in one basket and disregard any other possible choices. For Trump's base, I'm not sure there's ANYBODY ELSE that exists that would ever be approved.
