Yeah.
Not really saying one or the other is more correct, personally tho i remain brutally honest, kinda (or at least in that direction) especially when i am mostly anonymous, but, i do not enjoy to insult ppl on a regular basis, so to speak.
And there is stupidity.
I just go with the flow. Not my problem to point out something they don't want to hear.
Very true, too much peoples are in denial for one reason or another. Except I have the opposite behavior, I go against the flow because I enjoy the fight and to crush my opponents with the all-mighty power of logical thinking. Peoples are like materials, they become great like diamonds only with the proper pressure and heat to forge them that way. If you want to make the world a better place, believe in darwinism and become the tool of selection yourself. The weaks will be crushed and the best ones will survive the process and prosper.

But seriously, it is impossible to be completely honest. When your relative is terminally ill, you have to say words of comfort.
