Gordon Freeman is a bad character.
he's a scientist, why does he know how to operate firearms, grenades and rocket launchers?

also is he in no way fit to lead a resistance against an alien race, he cant even communicate.

also he basically has zero character development.

He's probably an American Scientist. He probably doesn't know a lot of science, but he knows how to shoot people!

Because he's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ genius and opertaing guns isn't a rocket science...

No, operating a rocket launcher isn't a rocket science either :P

True. The people advancing science in the US aren't US born.
Shooting people is science.

A major thing that put me off of the character was the fact that Gordon Freeman was a silent protagonist. There was literally no narrative reason for him being silent and only took away good possibilities for exposition. That being said, I’m not against silent protagonists as I really liked how Corvo Attano’s silence played an effective role in the first Dishonored game, and Doom Slayer got my respect because his silence added cool factor to him.

He's silent for the same reasons there are no cut scenes.

True, but there are plenty of examples of games that like BioShock: Infinite that give the character a voice but stays in first person. I just find a hard time suspending my disbelief when Gordon Freeman is a respected scientist yet never communicates his ideas for possible solutions.

If you didn't knew it, Black Mesa has a Training zone, in other words, when u do a new game on one of the difficulties there's an option that says "Training"

People from the US are born with an innate ability to wield firearms.
Shoot first mentality requires no talking.
Gordon's a damn patriot, watch your mouth.
